Secret Scrimmage vs. Marquette

Curious…why are these scrimmages SO secret? KU played Arkansas last night in a scrimmage and it was nationally televised. I would think these could be used to promote early interest from fans. I’d love to have been able to watch, even knowing it’s a scrimmage that might not be coached as a real game would be coached.

A couple years ago they were actually secret, and they were kept that way for some apparent reason.

Now? I cannot provide a good answer for you. At least release a little video or photos. Something like Kansas State did last week. That’s better than nothing. Two losses but these are solid teams they’re playing this year. I’m slightly encouraged by these results to say the least.

Yeah, in a world where college athletics is trying to generate as much content as possible it’s surprising these are so tight lipped.

It is ridiculous how unwilling Moser is to let info get out. Even with the so-called secret scrimmages, programs usually leak info. There are usually reports and partial stats on Twitter within a couple hours of the.games. With us? The only info seems to come from the other side.

Marquette people are saying their staff is worse about this.

Also Marquette side saying they played 12 minute quarters instead of halves.

I’m very very curious to see the bench production this year. I think that will make or break it. I feel like last year’s bench production was normally pretty good.

Also, I’m actually encouraged to see Godwin performing so well against some good competition. Maybe he makes a leap this year nobody expected him to? It’s not out of the realm of possibility.

Too bad the ncaa hasn’t gone to four quarters yet. Everyone wants it but of course, no change.

I'd imagine for the scrimmage, it helps to have more stoppages, so that you can pause and coach people up.

I don't really care either way how actual games are split up. Doesn't seem like it should matter much.

If anything quarters would be better for TV because they find ways to get more TV timeouts out of it.

I don't really know what to think when I see Godwin as our leading scorer. But will gladly eat crow on my assessment of him, if he can change my mind with his play and consistent production. Wonder if they didn't count fouls against players for the scrimmage (maybe that explains it)

Fouls were counted for in each scrimmage.

It doesn’t add timeouts. It helps reduce the endless parade of free throws because the bonus resets each quarter.
Yes! End of each half usually takes forever. I would've lost money betting that NCAAM would have switched to quarters by now.

It's hard to understand. Other than NCAAM, almost everyone plays quarters, from young kids all the way up. I just looked it up and there is actually one fewer media timeout per half in the women's game -- one per quarter, plus the break between quarters. It also adds strategy since you get two extra "end of quarter" scenarios. I heard Jenni B talk about that last season and she thinks it helps women's teams execute better in those situations since they have so many more opportunities throughout the season.
