Sha-Ka-Smart Sha-Ka-Smart Sha-Ka-Smart Sha-Ka-Smart

What makes you think he can recruit, greenbug? Seriously, I know almost nothing about the guy.

You know that he's been coaching a long time and he's won Ada. What else do you need to know? Compare the two resumes. Are you really more impressed with Buzz's?

Good news bad news this year for Shaka.

Good news - he made it to the sweet 16, picking up easily their two best wins of the year in the tourney.

Bad news - he lost to these teams:
James Madison
Drexel
Northeastern
Georgia State
South Florida
Old Dominion
Old Dominion again
George Mason

He also lost to UAB who proved they had no business in the tourney.

It still amazes me that they made the tourney having lost to everybody good in their conference and not having beaten anybody good all year.

All that being said, I'd still rather have him than Buzz fatty mcfat fat.

I'd be happy with him. He's a good coach. But, buzz has coached in tougher conference and made deeper runs in the tournament.

Maybe I was confused because "saving some old lady" has jack spit to do with OU's coaching search. Personally I bedded 3 supermodels and rescued 10 kittens from a burning building all before lunch. You know that has to be true because I'm saying it on the internet.

1. don't kiss it on the right side, or the left....but right in the middle
2. I never said it had jack to do with OU's coaching search.
3. the difference is I am telling the truth

he's a horrible free throw coach... no thanks..

Beat ODU on the road, a 9 seed. Beat George Mason by 20, an 8 seed. Beat UCLA a 7 seed. They beat Wichita State on the road who's now in the final four of NIT (and some here love their coach). They've now beaten USC, Georgetown, Purdue and Florida State in 9 days. ODU lost at the buzzer to Butler who's in the Elite 8. George Mason beat Villanova in the 1st round. I don't understand why people can't get it in their heads that the CAA plays good bball.

In the last 6 years, the CAA's record in the tournament is 11-8, with 1 final four and 1 Elite 8 (so far). This is a mid-major conference, but the top teams can play with anybody.

Of course I will point this all out now and VCU will get blasted by KU because of the athleticism mismatch.

If you watch/compare the styles of Buzz and Shaka Smart then you walk away instantly impressed with Smart. No offense to Buzz (who I am sure is a good coach) but Smart's style just smacks of hard work and preparation on both sides of the court.

His teams defensively remind you of what Billy Tubbs did in the past - pressing hard after made baskets and using the full court press often. He also changes up defenses often...basically using many different sets, presses, and traps to "wreak havoc on our opponent's psyche and their plan of attack."

Offensively they get the ball up the court quickly and spread (to use 2 man) or weave at the top of the key to take advantage of numerous downcuts. What has been very impressive is the way they move even quicker to combat tighter defenses and actually improve their fg% as a result. Florida State was the top defensive team in the country and VCU shot over 50% against them in the first half. What kept FSU in the game was all the offensive rebounds and second shot attempts.

IMO Smart's style is much more enticing for OU than Buzz's. The guy is highly intelligent (like the Mike Leach of basketball), dynamic, his players love him, and he's spent time as an assistant at Calif Univ of Pa, Dayton, Akron, Clemson, and Florida (each being a move up) so it's not like he hasn't been around.

He'd be a good hire.

You convinced me. Let's hire this guy! I was impressed with the way VCU played last night on both ends of the court. They beat a heck of a team in FSU.

The question is will Joe C. consider Smart since he coaches at the same school where he found our last hire? I realize that would be shortsighted on his part. But the psychological barrier may be too much to overcome.

Don't know...maybe they're stupid. I want him. He can evaluate talent and coach it up. With the built-in advantages of OU...I believe he will recruit very well here.

You can't be serious!!!

I will say they had a good season this year (lost to UCONN by 4, lost to VCU by 1, and lost to SDSU by 14 - all Sweet 16 teams). I don't know that he necessarily evaluates talent real well though. Have you seen that big they have? Horrendous!! Garrett Stutz shouldn't even be playing Division III basketball.

We shouldn't be lowering our standards!! Winning in the Big South and Missouri Valley isn't necessarily a good indicator. Winning in the Big East, ACC, Big 10, etc. is a better indicator.

I just confirmed with sources inside the Joe C. camp that Gregg Marshall is an idiot, Pitino is showing interest in the vacancy, and Buzz's buyout is 9.2 million dollars.

The way FSU was in the game last night and VCU still won is EXACTLY why Shaka is a great choice.

He is doing this run purely on emotion and coaching. He has some good players for his league, but he's defeated Big-10, ACC, PAC-10, and Big East teams with superior talent to him ... and in a couple of cases he just clubbed the crap out of them!

It's COACHING baby!!!!!! If they had ANY length to battle on the boards last night it would have been yet another blowout - but FSU was so much longer than them that they (VCU) were destroyed on the boards and FSU had a gazillion second chances and were up by 20 more fg attempts than VCU in the first half (although the Rams were up by 5 pts). In the second half FSU continued their work inside and actually started making some of those shots yet Shaka was able to keep them at bay and not get blown away. COACHING!!!

Then the little layup off the screen-the-screener in OT. VCU played heady, FSU played like Leonard's old teams.

KU will likely destroy VCU, but it's no small feat how far they have come given their talent level...and it's been a very entertaining run.

BTW - if VCU somehow, someway defeats Kansas (highly doubtful) then people better start looking for a baby and three wisemen ... and bow to the genius that is Shaka.
