Sherri

The first thing to do is to accept the fact that we do recruit some great players rather than to support the false prophets who claim that everyone OU recruits will disappoint. We have three recruits coming in, one who was called by some scouts as a program-changer. One was a top 30 and another a top fifty, once a top ten. Then, we have a top ten prospect coming in the following year. Not many schools can recruit to that level.

And, it would be appropriate to acknowledge that Baylor does cheat. Sally Jenkins and Michelle Voepel weren't writing about a sewing circle. They were lamenting the direction that Kim Mulkey may impart to women's basketball. And, it might be appropriate to wonder how many of OU's players have broken an opponent's jaw or pulled an opponent's hair. Holding Baylor up as a model for anything other than a Post Office wall is totally inappropriate.

The documentary did not mention anything about the last 6 years of OU basketball. Why not?

It has to be a conspiracy perpetrated by Boren and Castiglione. They want to pay Sherri more for no reason, and they had to drum up a phony documentary in order to justify it. Now, they can get funding from feminist Haitian groups that have been established just to launder money for years.

So now you know, soonerstar.

Ahhhhhhh HA! I knew it had to be something like that! :ez-roll:

I prefer to take a logical approach in comparing the accomplishments of players and coaches. So lets take a minute to review this year.

Many of our posters have been aggressive in saying our players are not very good compared to several other big-12 teams. The coaches clearly agree with you based on the awards announced recently. Consider:

OU had no one make 1st team all big-12. Only 2 other teams (Kansas & Texas Tech) were considered to be that weak - player ability wise. Think about that. They even say teams like TCU, K State, and Iowa State (all 3 who finished significantly below us in the final standings) had a better player than anyone wearing an OU uniform.

Even if you go on down through the 2nd place team (now you are looking at the top 15 players in the league), the coaches say we only had a single player with much ability. Fortunately they grudgingly did finally admit we had one player better than the team that never won a single game (Kansas), and the team that finished in 9th place (Tech).

Whether we want to admit it or not, we did finish in a tie with OSU and just one game behind WV. That means using the best possible way to compare teams - results over the course of a season against the same opponents - there was not much difference between the 3 teams. Yet they had significantly better players than we did.

I would suggest if a team has significantly weaker players, yet performs over the season about the same as teams with better players, it is quality of coaching that allows that weak skilled team to compete effectively.

Another comparison that aids in the analysis is the fact we split with Texas this year, yet Texas had massively better players (according to the coaches and many of our posters). Texas had 2 first team players, and 3 in the top 15. OU? Only that one lonely player somewhere in slots 11 - 15. Then Texas picked up 2 more honorable mention awards - and we had one. So Texas? 5 players listed. OU? only 2 listed. And again, even with that huge talent & skill disparity spread all over the court - we still split with them. It is illogical to not admit that we had overwhelmingly better coaching than the horns.
