Slightly Off Topic

I do have an agenda. Which is refusing to be a homer. In the words of leo Tolstoy: The hero of my tale, whom I love with all the power of my soul, whom I have tried to portray in all his beauty, who has been, is, and will be beautiful, is Truth.

Of the 8 "ranked" teams we beat who ended up unranked:

2013 Notre Dame - TBD
2012 Okie State - 8-5, lost to Baylor after us.
2011 Texas - 8-5, lost to okie st, Missouri, Kansas St & baylor after us.
2010 Uconn - 8-5, from mickey mouse league should never have been ranked
2010 Texas 5-7, nuff said
2009 Stanford 8-5, If Andrew Luck plays how bad do they beat us?
2009 Okie State 9-4, lost to Ole Miss after us. probably should have ended ranked.
2009 Kansas 5-7, nuff said.

If OU was playing at the level we expect there would be no need to haggle over the quality of beating borderline 5 loss teams or trying to explain that constant bowl losses really don't matter because they are exhibitions.

The commits look really good too. OU needs to land some of the big names that are still considering the Sooners but add Mixon, Quick and some of those other Cali kids that recently visited and this is a great recruiting class.

I understand that recruiting is an inexact science. One of the best OU classes in the past 25 years was the lowest rated - the 1999 class which Coach Stoops got an obviously late start. With that said, I would feel a little better if we can improve from our present ranking of #31. I'm having a hard time understanding why we can't get some high-profile players to commit. There are still 3+ months left before signing day, but this staff really needs to pick things up.

Rankings mean nothing right now because they are heavily weighted by the number of commitments. Therefore a school with 20 kids committed but no four star or five star players might be ranked higher than a school with 10 four star kids committed. I wouldn't worry about rankings too much and especially not right now.

The coaching staff certainly did a great job preparing the team to play a good Texas Tech team. Since I've been one of the critics in this thread, it's only fair to give them their due. It was a nice win! They now have their work cut out for them in preparing for Baylor.

Nice post, WF. Meanwhile, over on Hale's board, the usual suspects are already downplaying last night's win over a high-scoring Top 10 team.

It doesn't count. Tech is no longer a top 10 team and OU is supposed to beat Tech. Therefore the proper response is to complain that OU didn't win by more points.

Texas Tech is ranked #30 in the real sagarin ranking, not the watered down BCS version. 79th SOS. Only 1 game vs a top 30 team which was the loss vs OU. Best game a 10 point home win vs #43 3-5 TCU. Snuck out a 7 point win at home vs 1-6 Iowa State. They are the classic fake ranked team due to playing a Mickey Mouse schedule.

Baylor is the real deal. We will try to milk the clock running the ball but they are likely going to shred & destroy us just like A&M in the Cotton.

impressive win....and it really wasn't that close. If everette wasn't afraid of an onside kick and if clay didn't fumble it would have been a lot more impressive.

But the first half defense was legit! That's what happens when you control the clock and run the ball....great game by heupel.

Really impressed that we kept them in check most of the night with two TRUE freshmen defenders at linebacker...that is not an easy position to play vs tech

typical boca response...I wonder why you didn't take the bet?

Didn't you predict a 30 point loss?

LOL

Take what bet? I offered you OU & 14. Didn't make a prediction on the score. Just said if OU loses by less than 20 Stoops will have done a better job than usual.

I realize you have issues comprehending what people actually write and have a bad habit of interpreting things in your own bubble.

I really have nothing to add to the conversation, but did anyone notice the Pride playing "Boomer Blues" during halftime at Homecoming Saturday? How great to hear that tune again. That used to be the last thing the Pride would play after BBall games before we'd trudge out the door on the way back to Ardmore.

I'm not sure I realized how much I miss that song.

Yes. I think the pride director is trying to gain support by playing traditional songs since he has shown a complete lack of tradition since being here

Baylor is favored by 16. Right where I suspected. Baylor isn't a straw man like Texas Tech. Does anybody really think Mike Stoops can match wits with Briles?

It's such a big game for Baylor they might play tight which keeps it close. If not they will run up & down the field at will like A&M did in the Cotton.

How is Kruger recruiting these days? Any input?

I watched that debacle of a game last night with the Charlotte Sooners Club. There had to be about 30 of us. There wasn't a whole lot of disagreement as to the direction of the football program. Some thought it was more of a talent issue (like me) while others thought the coaching staff was more to blame (though I agree Josh Heupel is simply overmatched as an offensive coordinator). Regardless, I didn't meet anybody who believed all was even close to well with the state of the football program.

I really, REALLY don't understand those that want to blame Josh for this. So he went from last year being able to call plays and score tons of points, to forgetting it all this year? Eh. He just doesn't have the weapons, and that mostly starts with the QB. Baylor dared us to beat them throwing the ball down the field, and we couldn't do it. Bell is not an OU caliber starting QB. I also think our WR's, outside of Saunders and to a lesser extent Shepard, aren't very good right now. Too many drops. They don't get open. And they don't make plays. RB's are adequate, but no real game changers back there. And the oline, while improved in run blocking from last year, is still just average at it.

Doesn't matter what plays Josh calls, if the players don't execute, they won't work. I'm not sure what the answer at QB is at this point, but that is a problem that needs to be fixed.
