I spent the past four days at the Great American Shootout in Duncanville, Texas.

Here are just a few OU related observations.

By reading, possibly too much, into the OU coach's deployment for games, I believe that Jordan Woodard was their top target in attendance. It seemed like OU always made sure to have at least one coach (Kurger, Hill and Crutchfield were all there at various points this weekend) watching Woodard, who I thought had a very good weekend on the court. Which also means they also got a good look at his 2015 teammate Allonzo Trier (Tulsa NOAH), who also played very well.

FWIW, 2014 target Omega Harris picked up his first official offer from Fresno St (he wasn't playing with Woodard and Trier on Athletes First).

Stephen Clark tore it up with the Oklahoma Suns, he and another Oklahoma kid (Corlby Ervin) punked Bryce Alford (Steve Alford's son) and his team on Saturday in bracket play. Similar to OU's patterns with watching Woodard, OSU was always front and center at Clark's games.

Possibly 2013 option Shaq Morris saw an increase in interest from mid majors this weekend. I think that's his level and likely going to be the best fit for him.

This tournament overall had more mid major types than high majors, which showed in the make up coach's attending. Kruger, Travis Ford, Johnny Jones (LSU) and Billy Kennedy were the only high major head coach's I recall being there.

Thanks Sam.

How did Woodard look this weekend? Is his outside shot improving?

Thanks Sam. I love getting these updates.

So Trier continues his vagabond ways. Any idea why he picked Tulsa NOAH? Why not an OKC school?

Not looking good for Clark. That is too bad, but LK will move on, and find us some good bball players that want to be at OU.

Thanks Sam.

His three seems about the same as it was in high school season, his midrange game is improving though.

No clue, I'm not even sure if its official, its just I saw him playing with them at ORU team camp in June and have heard rumors that he's moving/moved to Tulsa.

Sam,

What kind of a player is Leyton Hammonds and who would you compare him to? There's just not much info out there on him other than he's a great defender and has huge upside.

Also, how did he do this weekend

I've seen him a little bit of him this year, but I haven't seen a full game of his since last July. From what I can remember, last year he was just a bigger wing that hit some midrange shots and mainly went to the rim (his best game was against an Oklahoma squad, I recall his team getting smashed by Smart and Forte's Texas Assault team in another game I watched).

I remember catching a few minutes of one of their games this weekend and he looked taller than Mizzou commit Zach Coleman (kid didn't look 6'8 if you're still out there lurking from SEC land Sawyer). Other than that I don't remember much.

That Mustang team he plays with is kind of weird to watch because they're not like the typical AAU team. They have a big and in some ways they're all somewhat equal. Most teams either have a designated alpha dog, or at least a top tier group then players around it. Because they're so many talented kids on it, you see their bench get a lot more minutes than the usual AAU team. When I was reading about their play in Indy at the Adidas tournament, it seemed like a different kid was stepping up every game. I'd guess that all or at least 90% of their players will be playing D-1 in some sport next year.
