At the beginning of the year Sherri emphasized defense and rebounding. I suggest that the team spend a week on those two only.
Maddie made some poor passes, lost the ball and couldnt hit and got discouraged. She has a ways to go before she consistently
progresses.
Our free throw shooting is unacceptable.
Those who think Gioya will solve all our problems are going to be disappointed.
Gabby got the dribbleitus a few times and it stopped our offense.
Our motion offense didnt move at times. It has to be moving purposefully and consistently for us to succeed.

When the threes dont fall, all there is is defense and rebounding. If those two start to dominate, then unfailingly the offense starts to produce.

I remember Sherri running backdoor cuts vs Tennessee the year we played in OKC, I'm not a fan of Sherris motion offense...

Poor rebounding and missing out on loose balls, are due to 1) lack of quickness, 2) not anticipating, 3) not being physical enough or 4) attitude. I've concluded it is more a combination of 1, 2 and 3, but I worry that 4 is becoming part of it too.

The A&M run of 20-2 is where they put the game away. What did the coaches do to stop that run.

It looks to me that this team can play with anybody except the very elite teams. But their mental toughness and lapses in focus makes them beatable by any power 5 conference team. When up by 10, the girls were jumping around happy. As the lead dwindled away, they didn't appear to settle down and regroup. Instead, they looked more like 5 individuals wearing the same uniform.

Final point I've made repeatedly. If A Bruin made the same mistake over and over, Wooden would let him watch the others play. It didn't matter how good you were, he denied playing time if you didn't follow instructions. Players knew it and they didn't repeat errors because they wanted to play. How else can a coach make the point? We need Kay Kay when the game is on the line. She committed 3 ridiculous fouls yesterday, as she's done many times. Of course, it's too late now, but she should have been forced to reckon with it as a freshman.

I agree with that. My problem is, I DO NOT like playing for 3rd place in the conference.

Lon has an experienced team and they have gotten much better than when they first arrived. Sherri has an experienced team but they do not seem to have progressed much since they first arrived.

My obeservation.

We were Off. Lucky to make it a game at all. We rely on hitting some outside shots, when those aren't falling- we struggle to win.

We are forced to rely on KK and Vivi- and until Maddie learns how to be a the leading scorer- It will be that way all year.

But I've seen progress, theres no question we were the better coached team.
Maddie shot 10+ shots again, it needs to be 15+ but it is getting there. I remember watching Peyton score 3-4 pts a game this time last year, it's not a over night thing. Seaking of Peyton, once she gets back in the flow- we will be just fine.

If she's going to be a leader, she should be shooting at least 20 times. If she's is as athletic as we all think, she needs to be shooting 20 times. If no one else is stepping up, I think she needs to be shooting 20 times.

I think Maddie is an excellent player, but I have seen nothing out of her that makes me thing she's going to be a leader on this time. She can be a scorer and a shot blocker etc. -- but not a leader.

I don't think leadership is her strong point, sorry. At least she hasn't shown it the last two seasons.

Maddie does not have the mental makeup of a scorer. Not sure how Sherri can change that.

A&M played out of their minds good for most of the second half. Our Sooners lost their momentum from the first half and never got it back.

Good teams can lose games to other good teams. It happens, especially when, in our case, the treys won't fall. A&M is good, and very athletic. It was no disgrace to lose to them, even though it makes one's skin crawl to lose to a team with Aggies in its name.

I believe we would defeat A&M at least six out of 10 times on a neutral court.

Until this team learns to defend and rebound when the offense stalls, we wont go as far as we should nor should we.

Good teams can lose, that's for sure Syb. Every team has that night once or twice in a season. The Aggies were the second time for us this season.

Maybe it's out of our system now. I hope so.

This team reminds me a bit of the squad Hook's senior year. Talent is abundant, but we just really can't seem to put it together consistently.

I don't know why. There could be a million reasons. All I know it is frustrating for fans and I'm sure it's frustrating for the coaches and the team.

That team was 8-4 at Christmas with no really good wins. This team is 9-2 and has pretty decent wins over BYU and Boston College (who is 9-1) along with a road win over 8-2 Washington. That team finished 18-15, 9-9 in conference. Somehow, I think this team will win twenty and win no fewer than eleven or twelve in conference, worst case scenario. If you remember, we couldn't hold a lead in a tight game. Sharane and Morgan, normally good free throw shooters, might miss five of six at the end of the game. Until last night, this team had a history of finishing strong.

These discussions have not changed for a few years now. Leadership, rebounding, KK fouls, scoring at the rim (missing chip shots), and so forth. Why is that?

I think there are a couple of reasons 1) a lack of discipline and 2) a failure to evaluate talent.

You cannot tolerate players making the same mistakes over and over.

We have too many players that Sherri cannot play in close games so we need to evaluate better during the recruiting process so we have a strong bench. If a starter is struggling, you have a quality reserve ready to score, rebound, and defend.

I think sometimes we go to deep and that's where we hit a big time droop off.. Payton is our best player if you ask me... we'll go as far as she takes us. Little has a limited offensive game, but she normally plays hard. Until Carter comes back Sherri should look to start L. Williams... bring Wyatt off the bench would give us a little more balance.
