Sooners 2016 commit Matt Freeman closes out high school career

He sure comes off as a hard worker who is extremely dedicated to improving as a player. Gotta love it!

That seems to be a common theme with the majority of Lon Kruger players lately. By all accounts, Freeman and McGusty will continue the string of "gym rats" Lon and his staff have brought in the past four years.

Freeman reminds me a lot of current NBA three point shooting specialist, Mike Miller. It will be interesting to see what position he will play in 2016? My guess is he will be a true stretch four who can step out and knock down threes, or create match up problems by posting up smaller defenders inside.

All I know for sure, though, is that I can't wait to see him in an OU uniform!

It will be SO awesome if he gets to come to Norman this January and spend half a season practicing/redshirting. Bonus time.

Agreed. It's basically what Dante Buford did last year since he only got to practice with the team for the 2nd semester. I like everything I've read about Matt Freeman. Really, all the recruits sound good.

Difference is Freeman can suite up for the games and travel.

Very excited about this kid. He's skilled, he's got size, he sounds like a grinder, and sounds beyond motivated. These are the kind of recruits that win you championships.

I did notice he said he was 6' 10". Be heard everywhere from 6'10" to 6'8". If they say he won't be playing much down low he needs to change that. Talk about a Niang type mismatch. He would be able to take guards low and posts high. Kids gonna be a good one.

This guy is a better athlete than Niang. He will probably have a similar skill set by his Sophomore year. I may have a better outside shot now. Passing, defense, and rebounding will see improvement when he gets to practice.

Let's not set him up for failure.. Niang is a stud in the big 12, freeman has a long ways to go to be a big 12 1st teamed and POY candidate

Good point. I'm sure that will make Freeman feel more a part of the team. His attitude will likely be better too. He will be excited to be with his new team and learning what is going on not expecting to play, whereas I'm sure Buford was a little bitter and felt screwed over by the NCAA when he enrolled fully expecting to play.

So he'll be here in january and could possibly play?

Pump the brakes.

Yes and yes. However, I imagine all his semester will involve is practicing and working out with the team and getting acclimated to his new environment. He will most likely and should redshirt. All that said, this is huge for him and the team for next season.

OK I need to tap the brakes.
I felt like there needed to be some OU sunshine after the last weekend of football.

This was a great get by Lon. It's an outside the box shot to get a truly elite prospect, that you probably couldn't get to OU if he were in the states. Everything I've read has said Freeman would be a high 4 star, top 30-40 recruit as a domestic recruit.
