me neither and a lot of people are going to be disappointed in the new hire I think. Not going to be Terry Evans but if Marshall and Johnny Jones are the "realistic" candidates at this point will anyone be happy with the future of the program or actually show up at LNC next year ?

Sure I may take OU basketball too seriously, like many of us here, but if 1 of those guys is the hire I'm probably going to feel like Joe C/Boren spit on us and the program by not treating it with the respect it deserves.

I would take Jones. Good coach and built a nice program at UNT.

But I would be really disappointed if Joe didn't offer Buzz first.

IKnowZilch said a while back that it was no way on Buzz bc of 1.5 mill. Take it for what it is worth bc iDontKnowAnything about IDontKnowZilch.

Zilch also said Capel would be back with Joe's 100% support for at least one more year and probably two.

Joe C has almost every other sport at OU humming along on all cylinders. Football, Women's BB, Baseball, Softball, Men and Women Gymnastics and now Golf. Wrestling is getting ready for a coaching change but the program is in decent shape.

The one sport which is sub OU quality is Men's Basketball. I think that Joe C can see that OU is in the position where it can and should make an investment in Men's BB. A low entry salary with a quick bump up if success happens in order to keep your coach is fool's gold of savings. Joe is a business man and understands that. If Buzz would like the job and believes he can succeed here, Joe can reduce the risk by offering a high salary, say $1.8 to $2 million, with a minimal buyout for the first 3 years.

Marquette may be able to offer some money to try to keep Buzz but it is a private school. The unknowns are the extent boosters are willing to step up at both places.

Some people assumed that Joe C had coaching candidates in place before terminating Capel's contract. That would not be Joe's style. However, having several boosters in line to pony up money for a big hire would not be as big a stretch.
