I will be very surprised if OU ponies up the cash that will be necessary to hire this guy, but if they do I am going to be very happy that they've proven they actually care about basketball.

Me too, but I hope we are both wrong. Looks like a great candidate that would stay a long time and has excellent recruiting sources in this area and all of Texas.

Normally, I would agree with you. But I think Joe realizes that if he doesn't hire a "sure thing" type of coach this time, and we don't get things turned around soon, we'll fall so far behind that we won't catch up anytime soon.

Exactly! Joe's last mistake did immeasurable harm to a once fine program and cost the university more than $2 million to buy out his contract. Making the right hire this time, regardless of the cost, will not be nearly as expensive as a replay of the last two years. Our basketball program cannot afford another screw up.

I still think they need to add two programs, preferably the ones in Florida.

South Florida (Tampa), Central Florida (Orlando) would be ideal.

I don't think Joe C. is gonna spring the $2.25 million per that will be req'd to get Buzz.

He'll get all "it can't all be about the money" and "we can't do these bidding wars" about it ... but the fact remains he's all about the balance sheet (which IS his job) and that check would bring in the spectre of red ink.

I fear you are right. Would love a Buzz Williams for our coach. But, I don't see Joe C. cutting that check.

Reliable regarding rumors? I don't live in Norman either, but I get the impression that if Joe C. wanted something published. the Norman Transcript wouldn't be his first choice.

What's the big deal with this guy? I have seen a few feel good stories about him. Looks like he was 3-9 against ranked teams this year. Didn't finish too high in the conference either. Can't find much about him prior to this year though so maybe I am missing something.

I have heard some other things about this and in general get a good feeling about Buzz wanting to be back in the region.
