I noticed that Ryan led all minute getters during the exhibition which probably bothered me more than it should. We have seen a pattern of him wearing down by the middle of conference play the past two years and not be able to put the rebounding numbers and make some of the plays offensively that he is able to make when he is "fresh".

One downside of the tough noncon schedule is that it doesn't afford many games for Coach Kruger to rest Ryan. I guess he will just have to gut it out again and play big minutes his senior year!

The good news is that he is playing more as a stretch 4 so far. That should limit the pounding he takes on that side of the court.

True, Ryan did log 25 minutes in the exhibition game, but it was still well below the 31 minutes plus (32 minutes plus in conference play) he averaged last year. If his minutes can be held to an average of somewhere in the neighborhood of 28 to 30 this season, that will go a long way to keeping him from wearing down by seasons end.

That said, a reduction in his minutes will depend entirely on Coach Kruger's confidence in our other post players. If Lattin, McNeace and Buford continue to perform well, I see no reason why Ryan's minutes can't be cut to a reasonable level. Adding a healthy AK would be a bonus.

Sad thing is that he is still the only real option to throw it down to on the block but I get your point.

I think he's just getting him sharp as early as possible because he's so important to us and we have a seriously testing early schedule. If we can get leads with him in, then Kruger can sub for him as he wants.
