because if someone hires Shaka Smart out from underneath you then we are truly screwed.

Mizzou
NC State
Ga Tech
VCU

we can outcash these schools

If you can be on the cusp of playing for a title at VCU, why would you need to leave?

1. it's a step up professionally
2. more money
3. better players
4. better facilities
5. Norman >> Richmond
6. a better conference
7. easier to replicate the success and beyond

I think some of these mid major coaches are going to start to learn from the "Butler model".

1. you're in the final 4, what is a "step up professionally" from that?
2. money doesn't buy job security
3. again, you're in the final 4, so you obviously have decent players where you are
4. you made the final 4 without "better facilities", so who cares?
5. Very debatable
6. you made the final 4 in a conference that is easier to compete in. Why would you want to go to a conference that is more difficult to compete in?
7. Again, debatable. B Stevens is in the final 4 two years in a row at Butler

but Joe won't go back to that well again, we won't go after him

where do you people come up with this stuff?

You DO realize this means that Joe will let what people think of him be a greater priority than who is the best coach?

there is not a single statement made anywhere to verify what you said. a few of you just made it up to justify your own choice.

You think people just make the Final Four and quit or something? Pitino made it and still moved on and up . . it's the job, not the results. You try to do well at better jobs.

The rest of what you say is genuinely not worth addressing. You can argue all you want, OU is a better job and can pay more.

I'm not saying you make it to the final 4 and quit. I'm saying if you have made it all the way to the final 4 at the school you're at and the conference you're in, and you aren't totally consumed with making 500K a year (or less) more than you are currently earning, what is your motivation to jump to a "power conference" school just for the sake of doing so? Look at Stevens, for example. Two straight final 4's, and he is being paid fairly well. He has a conference he can compete in every single year, the best job security you can have in this business, and a faithful fanbase. Why would he want to leave to try to resurrect a power conference school with a lot of pressure and no guarantees of success? We're not talking about guys that have just pulled off an upset in the 1st round and then gotten dusted. We're talking about guys that have made it to the pinnacle of the sport.

By the way, I'm glad you think what I say is "not worth addressing". Perhaps you should start 5 more worthless threads about nonsensical BS like "this guy looks like the new fish in a prison somewhere, we can't hire him"

If Joe C had hired Shaka after winning his play in game and then losing the next game and if Joe had not hotly pursued other candidates, then he would probably be criticized for going back to VCU. But he would have also been going after a little proved mid-major coach like he did when he went for Capel.

However, circumstances change. Shaka's team has won 5 tournament games. They have beaten a 6, 3 and 1 seed by double digits. FSU was the only team to play them close. I don't know if Shaka is at the top of Joe C's list or not. But if he is not on the list at all, just because he coaches at VCU, then Joe is truly a foolish man. And I just don't believe that he is foolish at all.

I said it, only it was not to justify my own choice. Now that Buzz is off the table I would love to have Shaka Smart. Admittedly this is pure speculation, but I think looking to VCU for our next hire will be more of a psychological barrier for Joe. Narrowminded logic on his part to be sure. Still, that's the way I see it.

As rich as you are, you could write a check and bring Shaka to Norman. Does Buzz know you dropped him for Shaka?

the vcu run is a 1 in 100 shot.
smart has been the benefactor of lucky 3 pt. shooting .
look at their regular season stats and their conf. standings.
smart's 15 minutes will be up next week.

yes, it's nothing but luck. his style and the numerous accolades his past HC employers have given him mean nothing.

you're a clown.

ooohhh..........listen to mr. basketball guru.
you're opinion means nothing more than anyone elses.
your high opinion of yourself is laughable.

I really don't think OU wants to spend more than 1-1.5 million at most.

Ga Tech hired a coach already Brian Gregory from Dayton
