Call me skeptical of Pledge being the starting shooting guard right now....

You left out some games against good teams. Pledger has been inconsistent to say the least during his first two years at OU. We've seen flashes of offensive dominance. I also thought we saw some improvement with his ability to defend and to drive the basketball last year.

I am hoping that some of it may have been the system that Capel ran. I am also hoping that we see some more improvement this year (we saw quite a bit from Cade and Crock at this point in their careers).

from sharp1:

Better soph. stats then Cade, Cory Higgins, cory joseph shot better then Alec Burk, Lace Dunn and Pullen...but he's a mid major...

I am glad that Pledge is on this team and, yes, he will be the starting SG when OU plays popcorn state in November. Here's to hoping he improves on his consistency this year.

Obviously he can't shoot for crap against quality opponents, but his experience should get him the start and if someone beats him out then so be it.

With all due respect to sharp, he is Steven Pledgers dad.

Lace Dunn (all-time leading scorer in the Big 12), Alec Burks (all-american, lottery pick), Cory Higgins (leading scorer in CU history, 3 time all big 12), Jacob Pullen (All American, all conferfence) an Steve Pledger (guy who has been below average on a team that has won 20 games combined in 2 years since he got here) dont belong in the same universe.

The thing Sharp does not consider here is the quality of the team. Ok, Pledger was somewhat decent for what has been the worst two years in the history of the program. But what does that make you?

How do you know that?

Point well taken on the quality of team point (but that's never stopped you from pimping a Tech or Nub player).

You left off colorado, nebraska, and ISU. I thought those were always great teams?

Other games of note:

Baylor (in Waco): 6-12 shooting, 17 points, 40 minutes.
Iowa St. (in Ames): 12-20 shooting, 38 points, 44 minutes. OU's only road win in a place that is tough to play, no matter how good ISU is.
OSU (in Norman): 3-7 shooting, 3-6 from 3, 11 points, 31 minutes
Baylor (Big XII Tourney): 3-6 shooting, 10 points, 20 minutes.

Pledger is clearly inconsistent, but he has shown flashes of being a good player. I would like to see how he fairs under Kruger, before I write off a guy that spent two years with subpar coaching in a bad offensive system.

Like Andrew Fitzgerald, Steven Pledger has some areas of his game that need to improve. However, he had a solid sophomore season and should be improved as a junior. I don't get why OU fans would want to insult Pledger or Fitzgerald. They are two of the more promising players on the team. Perhaps they will never be First or Second Team All Big XII guys but they are guys that can make honorable mention All Big XII and be important players on an improved OU team. I don't view them as the problem as much as OU missing a star player. They are nice role players and certainly above average Big XII players.

One other thing, Pledger shot .350 from 3 point range. Newell shot .271. Yet Bigabd calls Newell a high major player and bashes Pledger. I just don't get that.

Last year, certain posters ragged on Cade all year long. Cade has graduated, so they need a new target.

Calvin has a high ceiling, Pledger has no potential.

Pretty simple, really.

I don't agree. Calvin isn't any great shakes himself. Is he quick? Sure, but he doesn't excel at any part of basketball. He isn't a good defender. He isn't a particularly good ball handler. He isn't a good shooter. What skill does he have that makes your pants fit tighter?

Is that not true? It's always been my understanding that sharp is Pledger's father.

He is either a family member, close friend, etc. Dude loves him some Steven Pledger.

Look for a good year from Pledge myself...think he bounces back nicely within a new offense.

Lets assume that is true. Lets also assume you are correct that Sharp is Steven Pledger's father. Based on those two assumptions, I think it is pretty safe to say you are acting like an @$$. What kind of person would say to a father (even indirectly) that his son (playing for the speakers favorite team) has no potential. It is rude, disrespectful and not what I want or expect from OU fans and alumni.

I truly hope that Steven Pledger, his family and friends know that the vast majority of OU fans do not share your opinion and admire Steven Pledger for his talent and commitment to OU.
