Syracuse should be the model for this program

I checked in solely to make sure someone started this thread

Obviously, the OP was tongue in cheek. But it's clear that having the zone in your repertoire is worthwhile if your regular defense isn't getting it done.

That is three straight opponents that were significantly more talented than Syracuse that absolutely melted down against the zone. Same thing happened 2 years ago when another bad Syracuse team made it to the final four. Seems like one of those things where the teams that face them every year in conference have no problem, but once you get to the tourney teams just lose their minds.

we modeled ourselves after michigan state who couldn’t make a shot in the second half.

This isn't the first time Syracuse has snuck in and made a run... when March comes around, I wouldn't want to play Jim Boeheim.

Unfamiliarity is the biggest plus for the Cuse zone. There's a reason why they struggle to get into the tourney every year then somehow make a run when they do.

Yup. That game against Duke next week is going to look like this Clemson Auburn game. Coach K has got to be laughing that he gets to play a team this bad in the Sweet 16. Legitimately one of the worst teams to ever make the sweet 16.

Not even close.

You serious? They're one of the worst at large teams in tournament history. They've shot 40.8%, 35.7% and 35.8% in their 3 games in this tournament. They're winning because the teams they are facing are completely melting down in the face of zone. This is solely the gimmick factor.

Duke plays them every year in conference, won't be caught off guard, and will beat them by 30.

They're not even the worst team in the Sweet 16 THIS YEAR, let alone ever.

Sperry claimed Syracuse was the worst team to ever make the NCAA tournament, so now that they're in the Sweet 16, he's grasping at straws to make himself feel less silly.

It does not appear to be working.
