Very simply, this team has already completely exceeded my expectations. I have learned to trust Gary's opinions, and he stated several times before the season, that he thought we would be improved. I just couldn't see how that could be. M'Buye leaves and our two juco bigs either don't make it or leave. We don't have any height and have a freshman playing point.

Honestly, I thought we would struggle to be a .500 team. I loved lon and the direction of the program, but just thought circumstances would give us a down year.

So, no matter what happens from here, it has been a great year for the team from my perspective.

It has actually been an incredible year, if you think about it. We have won or could have easily won every game. 3 of our losses have been to Kansas or Michigan State (1 or 2 seeds), which in my lay opinion, are the best two teams in the NCAA. The rest of our losses have been essentially at the buzzer.

We play at a high and fun pace, and kids give max effort almost every night. Every kids seems improved from a year ago.

And, as a topper, I am more excited about this last recruiting class than any I can remember.

Great year for lon, the staff and kids.

Definitely excited, and exceeded my expectations as well.

But Michigan State isn't a 1 or 2 seed. They're one spot ahead of us in the polls.

MSU was ranked #1 in the country when they beat OU. In retrospect, I think it's obvious they were ranked too high. But I don't believe the Spartans are playing as well as they were back then.

As for my expectations, this OU team exceeded everything I dreamed they could accomplish long ago. Anything more will be a bonus.

MSU was so much more experienced and cohesive at the beginning of the season than most other team. They are pretty talented too. Unfortunately for them, I don't think they had as much room to grow and a lot of teams caught up to them. I think if we played them on neutral court today we'd win.

Think back to the Alabama game down in Arlington (or was it Dallas?). I know OU trailed them 26-10 but roared back to win fairly easily. Even after that game ended, I thought we'd be lucky to get into the NIT. So I am very proud of this overachieving bunch. I think they're two years ahead of schedule.

I left that game thinking we would jump from the Bubble to NCAA lock. The way we fought back and made adjustments mid game had me sold.
