OT: Football Talk

Athletic dept isnt in shambles.

Go get some fresh air outside. It’s a beautiful day! (In Oklahoma)

there is a poster on dirtburglars who is reposting info from a subscription account...
the info he is posting paints the football program as one in shambles.
i guess we'll see which one of you has better sources...

depends on what "subscription account" you are speaking about some of those are 2 bit hacks

I really hope this football mess doesn’t spill over to basketball somehow. Moser is doing a very good job with this years team so far. I think this could be the start of an upward projectory for OU basketball if Moser makes the tournament. I would absolutely hate for that to be thwarted because the athletics department is in shambles cause OU football is a sinking ship.
We’re top 10 in the country in revenue. The AD isn’t in shambles. I believe we do need new leadership and we need to better allocate our resources. We need leaders that understand the environment.

There does seem to be some things happening behind the scenes that need to be sorted, but I wouldn’t say it’s in shambles. I do think there is some conflict but solutions are readily available.

The guy being quoted on DB, called cap crimson or something, is a fraud. He’s stealing info from pay sites and passing it off as his own…and charging people for the info. He also makes **** up and I don’t think he has any inside sources other than what he plagiarizes from pay sites.

Oh man. OU football has held up the entire sports program, maybe even the entire university, since about 1950. The football program will not be what drags down this once semi-proud basketball program.

It actually all depends on who goes pro. Last year would have had Stutsman and Ford at the combine if they decided to go. This year I don't think Ford will get the invite, but a couple of the transfer D-line will, if they decide to go pro. I would say 5 defense will get invite. And like mentioned before Burks and Faroog would get invite.
Circling back on this. Three guys got combine invites (Downs and the two obvious guys). That is embarrassing. Elite programs have double digits. Just stunning how fast things have fallen off. And before anyone says other guys "could" have gotten invites if they turned pro earlier or were healthy, just stop. Guys don't turn pro early when they know they aren't early round picks. And every team has injuries. We just don't have the horses, nor does Brent develop guys (especially offensive guys). How sad that our invites are guys from the previous staff.

if david stone went in the portal he would get 7 figure offers from a bunch of places ..
he had a very good year 1 in norman he is very much living up to his recruiting ranking .. and is right on track ..
How do you feel about those six tackles now, Boss?
My enjoyment of collegiate sports is cratering by the day.

Anybody valuing Stone based on last year's production is kidding themselves.

The kid has all of the tools to dominate at this level, and at times last year, did just that. Every report I saw out of Spring practice was that he had taken a massive leap forward and was going to be a problem. You can't let a kid like that walk over a few hundred thousand, or probably even $1M. I don't know what he is asking for. I don't know what OU was/is offering. I'm just saying. The kid is uber-talented and was likely to play a big role in our defense this year, even if he didn't start games.

I agree with your assessment, but the guy got big money to come here. Asking for a raise before you've proven it on the field--even if you're convinced you're gong to prove it on the field--is the kind of spoiled, entitled attitude that is killing collegiate sports. He basically stole the money he made his freshman year. He got coached and trained and fed and educated and cared for to a degree that few of us will know in our lifetimes, and he cuts and runs because he can't have a raise that is more money than most fans make in a year (or five or 15)? He's 19 freaking years old and has done nothing yet (again, I'm with you that he's going to be good). Sorry, good riddance to him.

If I thought I could get a 30% raise by working somewhere else, I would probably strongly consider my options, whether I'm 19 or 59.

Can't let a kid walk over $1M? On top of what he already gets? Lmao. Good Lord.

If you'd spent a year in a job that paid you lavishly and had undergone extensive training that would benefit you greatly in your career, experienced great support in all your work-related endeavors, had all your meals bought for you, had all your medical care covered in addition to a slew of other benefits, but you knew that at that point, you hadn't yet contributed very much to the company that had treated you so well, would you feel justified in asking for a substantial raise? Does loyalty not enter the equation even a little bit? We're not talking about a guy with a wife and kid making $25K a year who has a chance to make $30K. We're talking about a 19-year-old who's making, what, $800K? A million? Two mil?

I'm clearly an outlier--heck, sometimes I feel I somehow took a wrong turn and landed in an alternate universe--but pay me that kind of money and I wouldn't even consider looking elsewhere if my employer was treating me right in addition to the salary. I have no understanding of the constant chase for extreme wealth. Everyone wants to be comfortable and take care of their family, but when people making millions are constantly chasing more millions--and people making thousands are defending the rich people's constant money grabs (I'm not speaking of anyone here)--I simply cannot understand it. Athletes get coddled at OU. They are not treated poorly or unfairly--quite the opposite. When is it ever enough?

He didn’t ask for a raise. OU cut his money in half

He asked for a raise, we gave him a portion of his request. He wanted more. Screw em. On to the next

I had not heard that. Is it confirmed? Do we know why?

When I was talking about a raise, I was responding to another post that said we should have thrown more money at him (as much as a million dollars). Clearly that wasn't going to happen, if what you say is correct.

It's funny (not so funny) that money comes up more often (by a mile) in college sports now that it does in the pros. The Mets are the only pro team I follow at all closely and even in this past offseason, with the chase for Soto and the uncertainty surrounding Alonso, money wasn't as big a discussion topic as it is nearly year-round in college football and hoops.

That's 100% not accurate. Hes still a 5 star at DT. Pj adabore might be a different story. Wait and see. Gentry williams might be getting pushed out simply bc hes hurt all of the time.

But we agreed to pay stone more. He's greedy. He probably leaves regardless

Assuming he's the goods (coaches should know from practice), what's the going rate for an All-SEC caliber DT in the Portal?

It's way more than what Stone made last season.

Heck, Williams likely got over $1M to come here, and I think Stone has the potential to be better.

Stop believing everything you read. The fact that you two are literally posting different ideas here shows that NOBODY really knows what is going on or why/how this is playing out. OUI is the biggest click-bate site around.

How is Gentry getting pushed out? He's literally our starting CB right now.

He needs to stay healthy, but it's not like he's sitting out with an earache or a charlie horse.
