the big 12 is highly overrated

It's the ncaa tournament, conference doesn't matter.

I think you are correct. The Big-12 has no real top-8 teams in 2015, based on the eye test. Today, Baylor got out-coached and Iowa State came out flat. Both teams lost close calls. Both could have won.

I'm not so sure. It appeared both met teams that were better than our Big-12 teams. Texas has also looked overmatched most of the time. OU's task looms far harder than a 3 - 14 match would have had us believe.

One difference is the officiating. Frequently, games in the Big-12 season are controlled by officials. Not as much in the tournament. If you want to win, you must outplay your opponent.

That is one reason Kansas has often struggled in the tournament. In addition, the northern teams are also given a massive advantage by having the Big-12 tournament in KC every year. Kansas & Iowa State, and to a lesser degree K State, are spoiled by having nothing but home court advantages in the Big-12 tournament. When the Big-12 grows up into a real conference we will start to move it around and force teams to prove their worth in a legitimate tournament setting. Somehow the Big-12 administrators do not believe the tournament can be supported outside of Missouri - a state not represented by anyone in the conference. Sometimes I think we have dense heads running the conference. other times I know we do.

The results of the tournament this year won't affect seeding next year. If the Big 12 is the number one RPI conference next year, then the top teams will get good seeds again.

The B12 better start showing it on the court. They were 6-7 in the tourney last year, and no team went beyond the Sweet 16. We've already lost a pair of #3 seeds and Texas is behind. The conference could be 0-3 in an hour.

The B12 bubble will eventually burst with these kind of performances.

Who cares how the Big XII does? It only matters for seeding...that's done.

They did show it on the court during the season. RPI numbers aren't just randomly assigned.

An AAC team win the tournament last year. It's not because the AAC is the best conference. An SEC team will probably win it all this year, and the SEC us awful. You can't judge a conference on the results of a tournament which is absolutely famous for the amount of flukey things that happen in it.

It's a little misleading though.

Win a couple of close games, or "get hot" early in the season, and once OOC play is over, you can't relinquish your hold on the #1 conference b/c you are only playing yourself.

Not to mention how "best" is calculated. I agree that we are a deep conference. But having better teams at the bottom of the league isn't better than having some better teams at the top.

No, the RPI isn't randomly assigned but it's heavily influenced by games in December. It doesn't matter how we did in the SEC challenge. The games that really matter are played in March and the B12 hasn't fared very well the past few years.

I agree the AAC isn't the best conference but they do have 2 NCAA championships in the past 5 years, and the B12 doesn't have a Final Four appearance. It's not all just luck or flukes.

I was trying to figure out what "case and point" meant.

With ISU and Baylor both going down, it's hard to argue that the B12 was overrated. Humiliating day for the conference.

Weren't both these teams homer teams, not really great road teams? Sometimes a team plays twice as good at home as they play on the road. Some teams are more even keeled.

Texas, which also lost, was the most overrated team in the country. No front court in college might have more NBA prospects than Texas and yet they never jelled as a team. Ibeh, Ridley, Turner, Lammert and Holmes? Only Kentucky has a better collection.

But, unlike Baylor and Iowa State, Texas played a better team.

Kansas was in the championship game in 2012...

True. Comparing the B12 to the American conference (AAC) is tough because the American is evolving and is in a state of flux, but that was never my point. The AAC was announced as the Big East was being dismantled. Technically in the past 4 years, Uconn has 2 championships and Louisville has one, so you can argue they have won 3 in 4 years. Louisville moved to another conference this season.

I'm not arguing the American conference is stronger than the B12. It's not. Especially now as the American is continually getting watered down. However, I personally don't think the B12 is the toughest conference. It may be the deepest, but it's not the best. JMHO.

I do think the B12 has been a disappointment in the past 2 NCAA tournaments. That was my point. If the conference is going to be touted as the best basketball conference, they're going to have to prove it on the court when the games count. I couldn't care less about RPI. Surely one of the 4 remaining teams can make a deep run..... But I don't have a lot of faith in OSU or WVU, and Ellis is hurt.

so what are the odds of three 14 seeds advancing? Gotta like OU's chances now--every Big 12 team could/will be out by sunday night.

No Big 12 team in the sweet 16, is the way I see it

That can't/won't happen. We'll get at least two. But maybe no more than that. KU and OU both have solid/good chances. WVU with a decent draw too.
