As a unit, the freshmen hit 13 for 26 in the two games (500). Romero was six of seven with a double, home run, stolen base, and five runs batted in. As a whole, the team was 32 of 67, 478.

Chestnut was charged with the only run with one run in 3.1 innings, four hits, four strikeouts. Paige walked in the only run with a bases loaded walk in relief. Finney allowed two hits in two innings, no walks, no runs, no strikeouts. Neither Finney nor Chestnut went to bat.

Seminole State vs OU

CF Pendley
2B Knighten
SS Romero
RF Miller
SP Parker
DP Aviu
1B Townsend
LF Wodach
C Ellis

Parker let Seminole load the bases with one out, but two Ks got him out of it.

In the second, Wodach singles off the wall to bring in Rogers, 1-0.

Eight straight strikeouts for Paige, nine overall.

Arnold leads off with a single. Pendley plates her with a double. Romero hits yet another single to drive her in. I think Romero is now 8 of 9 as a collegian. 3-0 after three.

Townsend triples in a run, and Arnold singles her in. 5-0 after four.

Nirschl two-run double.
Wodach bunts her in
Arnold singles home another, 9-0 after five.

Fourth game of the season: St.Gregory's at OU.

LF Aviu
CF Pendley
SS Romero
RF Miller
1B Townsend
2B Knighten
DP Nirschl
C Wodach
3B Arnold

SP Stevens

Wonder where Self is?

St Gregory's singles, but doesn't score.
Erin singles to left, 1-0.
Shay singles to right, 2-0. after one

Romero's double makes it 3-0 in the fifth. Stevens has retired eleven straight.

I would love to see Romero's BA after this weekend.

After four games:

AB-R-H-RBI-BB-K
Romero 13-5-11-7-0-0 2-2B, HR, 2-SB
Aviu 10-8-4-1-3-0 2B, 3B, SB
Rogers 4-3-2-4-1-0 2B, SF, SB
Knighten 12-4-4-1-0-0
Clifton 4-2-0-0-2-0 E
Lundberg 5-0-1-0-1-0

After four games, Romero is 11 for 13 as a collegian. Pretty good start. She has 16 total bases in 13 at bats.

Aviu is hitting 400 and seems to have a knack for getting on base and scoring--8 runs?
Rogers is a better hitter than I had thought, although I had no idea what to think.
Knighten is doing well at bat and in the field.

As a unit, the freshmen are 22 of 46.

Good to see that Kelsey may be gettin' her groove back! You can never have enough good pitchers.

After the first four games:

Romero 846 two doubles and a home run
Pendley 625 two doubles
Ellis 571
Hatfield 571
Townsend 500 two doubles, triple
Arnold 500 double, three stolen bases
Rogers 500 double
Aviu 400 double, triple
Miller 364
Knighten 333
NIrschl 333 two doubles
Parker 250
Lundberg 200
Clifton 000

Kelsey is 2-0 in 11.0 innings on two starts with six hits, no runs, fifteen strikeouts, and ONE walk. Her control is back?

Paige pitched 8.2 innings and allowed four hits and three walks. But, she has 17 strikeouts in those 8.2 innings. She got a win, as did Chestnut who allowed the only run scored against OU when she loaded the bases. Paige came in and walked in a run. Finney, Chestnut, and Stevens never batted.

It's interesting that out of the gate, Romero is batting in the 3 spot. That can only mean that she's going to be really good.

Since I didn't see Romero this weekend, it is difficult to be certain. I did see her hit in the international games this summer, and she does hit good pitching. She may be more of the typical three hitter than we have had.

I suspect that she will have a slightly higher average than did Lauren or Shelby with not quite so much power. But, the way that she hits should lead to more doubles and triples. She does hit the ball hard, with the occasional home run. She may peak out at fifteen to twenty home runs. But, she may have a lot more extra base hits.

She also has one aspect to her that Shelby and Lauren lacked. It is very, very difficult to strike Romero out. I think she struck out three times in four years of highschool. She makes contact. Thus, she is more of the Musial-type #3 hitter, and less of the #4 hitter in the #3 slot.

I wonder if this team would be better at moving runners around. Last year, we had difficulty sometimes when we got runners on. There were too many strikeouts, and they don't score runs or move runners. I noticed that in the first four games, there have been only two strikeouts.
