OU athletic director Joe Castiglione issued a statement reading, in part: “In the review that is ongoing at this time, we are working jointly with the NCAA in a thorough examination of the facts.”
Worth following over the coming weeks is how involved the NCAA becomes. OU will want to avoid a separate NCAA investigation, which can lead to NCAA allegations and, ultimately, penalties, particularly since its athletic department is already on probation through May 23 as a result of infractions committed by the football and men’s basketball programs over the past decade.
