We have a lot of recruiting gurus here, including me, who second guess the coaching staff. Facts are when you look back at it though, there aren't a lot of players that OU turned their backs on that would have made a difference in this team. So this thread is compiling a list of players OU passed up on that would have made this team better. I'll go first.

Amric Fields at TCU: Would have been a much need big man

Ricky Scott at Arkansas: Would have given us guard depth, probably post depth too!

John Roberson: Would have been the much needed 4 year pg, but obviously wouldn't have affected win total.

Travis Leslie at UGA: UGA's second leading scorer that OU stopped recruiting do to fear of not qualifying.

Rotnie Clark @ Arkansas - Would have given us a big time Shooter

DM the subject of your post is a bit confusing. When you say "struck out" that leads me to believe you're talking about kids we recruited but then they chose another school. Yet in the body of your post you're talking about kids we did not offer. Not trying to be a smart @$$, just trying to clarify exactly what you're saying.

From what I recall, had we taken Rotnie we would not have gotten Warren and vice versa.

Some may argue that would be a good trade

knowing what I know now, I would take that trade. Hard to argue our position at the time if that is true though

If I remember correctly, they were at one time a package deal until a fist fight on their AAU team.

Could be a good trade, but would we have reached the Elite 8 with Clarke as opposed to Warren?

Yea i think so, that's another outside shooter to break Syracuse's 2-3 zone, and we still had Blake, Taylor, Longar, and Big Balls AJ.

Exactly my thoughts.

I don't think Clarke would have made too significant of an impact these past two seasons to take him over WW's contributions during the Elite 8 season.

My opinion: Not sure if OU reaches the Elite 8 with Clarke and not Warren, and OU doesn't win much with either these past two seasons.

I think why I would have taken WW that season is because he had a better ability to create for others and beat opponents off the dribble. Therefore he complimented the pieces that were already in place better than Clarke IMO.

And did you mean to say Pattillo instead of Longar? Longar's last season was '07-08.

I agree Clarke is not a game changer, But I do think if he is playing instead of Cade on Saturday, we win pretty easily. He is a much better shooter than Cade, but thats it. And there are a few games this year that Cade has won for us, and that we wouldn't have been in without him, but having both would be nice this year for when one or the other was off

I did that was my bad. I was think Pattillo and Typed Longar

I definitely take WW over Clarke.

I'm not arguing that Clarke is the better player. WW is a much better player, But he was another one of the cancer guys last year and even to an extent the elite 8 year (allegedly sleeping with AJ's girlfriend) Clarke from the outside seems to be a better chemistry guy.Thats why I said in hind sight i would take Clarke but that the time we didn't know WW would be that big of a problem for us last year

Yeah it is confusing. I mean guys that we passed on. Thanks SS.

From what I hear, Clarke's dad was fishing for offers. Once WW signed, it was over, because he punched Clarke in the mouth.

Do you mean fishing for Offers like Can Newtons Dad?

Well I admittedly don't follow recruiting that closely, but what about this Oklahoma kid that is a HS senior this year and has signed with Gonzaga? It seems like I have seen some people on this board express some anguish over us not pursuing him.

In the form of a job and scholly offer for daughter. This is just gossip though.

Well then he belongs in the SEC where they "Take Care" of their student athletes

As far as the WW vs. RC debate, I would've taken WW. WW brought a lot of criticism on himself while he was here because of his questionable attitude, but at times during his freshman season he was playing at an extremely high level. Another thing people forget is that during his sophomore season he was playing injured for most of the year before he had to be shut down. The bottom line is if you are given a choice between taking a player like WW that has All-American potential and a guy like RC who might have Honorable Mention All-Conference potential, you take the former.
