The official Jeff Capel struck out on that kid Thread

I'm not arguing that Clarke is the better player. WW is a much better player, But he was another one of the cancer guys last year and even to an extent the elite 8 year (allegedly sleeping with AJ's girlfriend) Clarke from the outside seems to be a better chemistry guy.Thats why I said in hind sight i would take Clarke but that the time we didn't know WW would be that big of a problem for us last year

...better chemistry guy? Rotnei demands shots, that is usually a chemistry killer.

The biggest recruiting loss of everyone mentioned in this thread is the Roberson kid who would have given us a very good PG for the last 3 years and this year would be 4. The kid is a very solid D-1 player and would have helped us last year because we wouldn't have needed TMG.

A PG of his talent would make this years team much better, too. That was a big miss and could cost Capel his job.

He was a big miss. But Texas Tech is 5-6 just like us. Not much a pg can do. Just like what people rightfully point out about Guerrero. He's not going to affect the win loss total unless he has horses to run with him.

Its still not as bad as sleeping with a teammates girlfriend...

Well, I would argue that it wasn't necessarily a detriment to chemistry when considering the on-court results. They seemed to be just fine.

Rotnie Clark @ Arkansas - Would have given us a big time Shooter

Is that fair? Wasn't it Willie Warren or Rotnie Clark? If those rumors/reports were accurate, I don't really think you can fault Capel for going with Willie Warren.

Agreed.

And someone correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Capel miss out on him basically because of his pursuit of Jai Lucas? If so, then that makes the loss on Roberson even more frustrating; Lucas hasn't panned out like many hoped he would.

I haven't been able to watch any games, but has Roberson been hurt or in a slump? His numbers are down compared to years past.

I know that our recruiting class is nothing to brag about this year but Capel did go after McCallum, Releford, Pressey, Lamb, Barnes, Jones, Cothron, Noreen, Johnson. He just lost out to other programs. At least he is going after the top talent.

And the only way these guys are misses that you all are talking about...is if they would have chose us over the programs they went too.

I need to just employ you, because you made the point I was trying to make a lot clearer and easier.

The the biggest misses were not being able to keep Scotty Reynolds and Damian James.
Those 2 with Blake & Taylor Griffin, Austin Johnson and OU might just win a National Championship.

Tundra just hit the nail on the head. In fact, I think if just scottie had stayed. Capel would have had a completely different and improved record over the last four years.

We hired a young guy that wasn't ready, that has made some mistakes, but appears to have the smarts and talent if he can put it together. I am willing to give him this year and next to see if he can right the ship. I think Joe is going to give him this time and see if he can salvage a good coach. Jeff had never coached at a "big time" school and unfortunately, he has sort of learned on the job, in many ways, the -- hard way.

Frankly, like many of you, it is a little hard to watch right now for me, but I intend to hang in there. I do think we will be improved next year with just what we have now. If Jeff can add another piece or two, we could be decent -- good. Goff and Osby should help and I think all of our returning players will be improved. We really need a point.

Not disagreeing that is a big deal, but I doubt if WW gives another girl a go instead of AJ's we beat UNC. It's irrelevant.

What possible could does it do to discuss in hindsight(2 years later) who we shoulda or coulda recruited?Doesn't change anything and is pointless.

If you want to speculate, what about what happens if Kelvin doesn't cheat? He leaves for Indiana,Capel has talent from day one and we are rolling along now. Hmm you can assume anything you choose in dreamland.
