The situation at Booker T

He put people's lives in danger. period.

you don't know that at all. you weren't there with him.

you're assuming that...and you're willing to essentially destroy someone's livelihood and potentially their life over that assumption.

I bet the air is really thin at the top of that mountain you apparently live on.

but even then it is usually not one strike and you are out.
hopefully for the last time, nobody is saying one strike and you are out.

Whatever. He got a DUI. Thats enough for me to say he put people's lives in danger.

Getting suspended from work is not destroying anyones livelihood. And by him driving under the influence, he potentially could have caused his own life and somebody elses life to be over.

far from it.

I just don't see why you are defending his actions. Defense lawyer?

Employer's don't generally punish you for what you do on your own time. There are examples like failing drug tests and such but even then it is usually not one strike and you are out. State boards of licensure and the Justice system are the ones who need to punish him and I think they will. The hospital I work for would not suspend me for a DUI....the State Board of Pharmacy would be a WHOLE different story though and rightly so.

It's a different story when you work "in government". I'm not saying it's right or wrong, I'm just saying it is. It is written in policy that you can be disciplined or dismissed for "conduct unbecoming". You can't really compare the public and private sectors when it comes to stuff like this.

Most school systems in Oklahoma will terminate your contract if you get a DUI. You will lose your CDL which many, many schools make you have to be a coach.
And they can take your coaching away at any point in time for no reason much less a DUI.

Probably will be able to plead it down where it may not effect his teaching certificate.

I understand. My Dad was a teacher/administrator for over 30 years so I have seen/overheard plenty. Plus the fallout of it. Lots of things are swept under the rug while lesser offenses punished. That can happen for various reasons. If this was in the middle of nowhere the he probably walks with what ever the police give him/her and looses a bunch of salary due to loss of his/her CDL...but it's not and that is just the way it is. I don't think he should be drawn and quartered but I also don't want to minimize what he did. I see the effect of drunks every day and it's not pretty. The main caution I would give is when we sit in judgment of someone in a case like this to remember that our actions/inactions will have consequences all their own. I don't know if he has a wife and kids but kicking him to the curb might do more harm than good...I don't know and am glad I don't have to make that decision. I am on my kids school board and have plenty of problems of my own to deal with. Good points from Tundra and Senior by the way.

To me it's sad for the kids that liked him and his family. Like I said, I like him. I was recently talking to someone about how I thought he would be a great candidate for TU if that job came open. Now, I can't see TU hiring him.
