Tiny investigation update

You have a right to be upset and assume there could be some blame on Capel for this situation. But the manner you are going about in presenting your argument is what I believe Norm and some others have issues with.
It seems like you are trying to play the role of judge, jury and executioner. Plus the defense hasn't even been allowed to present their case yet.

I see what you are saying, and thus offered to back off and gave them the ok to delete anything I said.

I believe the appropriate objection is "assuming facts not in evidence" with a smattering of "hearsay"

Overruled.

I certainly don't want to trash Jeff Capel's reputation. It is not exactly the longest leap in history, though, to speculate that he might have known what one of his top assistants was up to. He might not have! I do not know. He is certainly responsible for entrusting Orande Talliaferro with one of the top positions in the program, a move that has proven absolutely disastrous.

I am in agreeance with all of your statements. I do think it is a bit of a leap to say that Capel hired the Unibrow with the express purpose of using extra benefits to recruit players.

Anyone who thinks he knew is accusing him of something.... If he knew, he supported it, otherwise it wouldnt have happened.

That's fair. I just disagree. I think it is much easier to draw my conclusion based on the actions of the athletic director and the head coach.

:clap

Everyone is forgetting that Joe C is one of the best AD's in the NCAA. We have one of the toughest compliance departments in the NCAA. there is no way Jeff is HC today if he knew or was involved.

Really??? Are you really going to say that OU has one of the toughest compliance departments in the NCAA? The facts suggest that OU has one of the worst compliance departments in the NCAA.

And it is time for Joe C. to start feeling some heat. How many infractions need to occur before it is time to evaluate the evaluators?

Your attitude toward our compliance department is rooted in the fact that we are self-reporting these incidents as demanded by Boren.

Neither you nor I have any idea what the compliance departments at other universities are or are not finding out about their program because unless they self-report it, nobody knows until/unless the NCAA starts an investigation.

During this offseason I've learned from our fans that Jeff Capel is not good at coaching because he's sending guys to the pros and still having a losing season like last year and doesn't know what's going on with this program. I'm being facetious with this post but do our fans really think that Jeff is this incapable of a coach?

So, OU self reported the Tiny stuff to TMZ?

Suppose you were the head of the OU Compliance Department. How would you prevent something like this?

What you have to understand is that there are two kinds of compliance departments. Those who try to make sure everything is done correctly and those who try to perfect methods of covering up or stonewalling.

I would definitely have all phone bills closely monitored each month.

I'm pretty sure they already do that with regard to recruiting. There would have been nothing suspicious about any phone calls not made to recruits.

I'm willing to give Capel the benefit of the doubt and believe that this was a learning experience for him and he now knows to be more careful about who he hires as an assistant.

Didn't we all assume that a young head coach would hit some stumbling blocks along the way? Well this is just one of those, but off the court.

1.)If Talifero arranged/encouraged/oversaw the transfer of money from Hausinger to Gallon and/or Warren, and
2.)Capel knew the full extent of what was going on, and
3.)Joe Castiglione and/or David Boren became aware of that, then
4.)Jeff Capel would not currently be the coach at the University of Oklahoma

Seems like a lot scheming just to get 3000 dollars to a recruit. If that is all Tiny felt he was worth it goes against what we know about him. He felt he was ready for the NBA right out of HS and he is going to sign with a college for $3000? That alone makes me question the whole story. But who knows. The whole situation stinks.

I agree and I think Jeff could have gave Coach O a little more of a benefit of the doubt in recruiting and may not have watched over him like its obvious now he should have been.

I worked as a trainer and was on and around the bench for many games, practices and workouts for two different Universities. The coaches aren't together all of the time and many only see each other during those games, workouts, practices, etc. It would be extremely easy for Coach O to have done this without Capel knowing, especially if this was from Coach O's personal cell phone. For entrusting so much responsibility to him is on Capel certainly but Capel is only guilty of being a bad judge of character in that aspect, something he also had problems with in his players. I also believe this to be the reason Jeff is taking so long to hire assistants. He wants someone he can fully trust with the expectations he has for them as assistant coaches. I also believe this to be reflected in the type of players he brought in this year.

Coach O. was basically a hired gun for recruiting purposes. It wasn't like he had the relationship with Capel that Betts and Kline had.
