Don't be disappointed that OU didn't match their average of 87 points in today's game. Texas A&M-CC ran clock as much as they could on 80% or more of their possessions to keep the score down. Despite the lower than usual score, this was team basketball at it's best, at least most of the time.

A few of the highlights:

*10 different OU players scored
*7 of them scored between 8 and 18 points
*Buddy and Isaiah led the way with 18 and 12 respectively
* OU shot 41% from three (11 of 16)
*OU had 9 blocks (Bennett with 5)
*OU had 10 steals (four different players had 2 each)
*OU forced Texas A&M-CC into 20 turnovers, while limiting their own TOs to 9

As a footnote on two of our subs:

Bennett is going to help this team going forward. He gets better with every outing. 9 points, 3 rebs and 5 blocks is not a bad day for a guy who has not played much to this point of the season. I watched him closely in today's game. He's a much better player now than he was two weeks, or even two games ago.

Booker had 9 points on 3 of 7 shooting from the field (2 of 6 from behind the arc). He also had 3 rebounds. He needs to be more selective on his shots. As Billy Tubbs said during the game, "Booker never saw a three he didn't like." Most of his shots look good, they're just not going in. In time, I believe they will. More importantly, Frank hustles his tail off on defense and going after rebounds and loose balls. All he needs is to see a few of his shots hit nothing but net.

A final word about our defense. Don't worry, it's getting better. Our help defense was especially good in today's game.

Really, really important for Bennett to continue to improve.

I agree! However, wouldn't 11 of 16 be 69%? :D

Sheepdog is correct. We were 11 of 16 from the free throw line, 9 of 22 from behind the arc.

For you picky guys who insist on accuracy, that is 40.9%, not 41%. ;)

When we win, rounding up is allowed.

No pickiness here... just messin' around Ada :) Though the stat isn't nearly as impressive as a FT % as it would have been for 3 pt %. :o

Noticed you didn't mention the team effort in rebounding.

It seemed to me that Texas A&M Corpus Cristi didn't even belong on the floor with us. We completely overwhelmed them on both sides of the floor. It felt over by half time. That's a good game against anyone.

Maybe I was trying to forget our "team effort" on the boards. :D

Yes, that was one of the not-so-bright-spots in this game. I think most of us have known since the season started that rebounding would not be a strength for this team. Spangler can hold his own with anyone. Unfortunately, he doesn't have much help, except for an undersized four (Cam) and our guards who do what they can to offset the lack of size down low. Unless Bennett can turn into a rebounding beast sometime soon, I don't expect that to change.

Teams better get their licks in on OU this year, 'cause we'll have a size advantage on most of them next season.

Understand what you're saying Ada. It was just frustrating watching us being dominated by a team like this on the boards. To add insult, they successfully scored too often on the putbacks while we were too often not scoring when we got the offensive board.

Bemoaning mistakes or shortcomings that get us beat in one thing. Nit picking anotherwise good winning performance is another.

I agree. We did so much well in this game that you are really missing the big picture of you are looking for things to complain about.
