Trae Young

We will dodge a bullet with this player/father .

We have a great core of young players that will take ou back to elite status within a couple years .
Players with crazy parents can rip a team apart .
Besides we need a true pg , we already have two scorers

A good talent , but with that a parent like that he could be a huge cancer .

Ryan Humprehy all over again . Hopefully we pass and focus on a new target

Psychology 101 - His dad does not like OU and he's simply going out of his way to justify why he doesn't want his son to go there. Whether you like or don't like someone or something, you'll find a reason to justify your thinking...and you usually won't have to try that hard. If that Norman writer chose to treat a high school kid like a high school kid, Trae's dad would have simply found another reason to say his son won't go to OU.

What this comes down to is how much Trae is influenced by his dad. There is obviously someone in his family (his mom?) who wants him to go to OU or he would have eliminated them a long time ago.

This is exactly what I was thinking as I read through this thread. You said it for me.

The classic "we don't want him now that it's clear he won't be going here" mentality.

We need this kid. Lon wants him desperately. Lon has passed on the Stevie Clarks of the world but not trae.

This^^^^

I don't know that I would want a journalist going after my high school kid. They can brag on how he plays or plays that he made, but leave the criticism for the coach.....after all, the coach is supposed to be in control.

To tell the truth, I'm surprised that OU been in the picture as long as they have. Still isn't 100% over but the odds of beating schools like Kansas, UK, Duke UNC..ect for players are not good..even if that kid is in your own back yard..It can happen but most likely not,

No. this is 100% wrong. It's not "we dont want him now that blah". It is "we dont want him here if that is his mindset". And I believe that 100%.

If he is all about personal attention then I dont want him. If he's leaving after a year then I dont want him. If he leaves it all to his dad like that then I dont want him.

I want someone who can handle the ball against pressure, defend on the ball, and make passes. Everything else is gravy. Don't need a McD's AA to do that.

I want what Lon wants. Lon wants trae.

OU is not recruiting Trae. No OU assistant was at the Stillwater game. The one OU assistant that is there is there only as a father.

OU has turned there instate sights toward Keyshawn Embery at Midwest City. They would love to offer him but Tree's ego to not play with any instate players has them handcuffed.

Guess I have a totally different opinion...

#1 when a kid is a #1 recruit of the state, attracts attention (and likes it), a top 20 national overall recruit, been told he's a 1 and done...he's going to be written about. (where there articles written about Blake?)

#2 what does his dad think is going to happen at ANY school or good grief if he goes pro after 1 year and screws up...

#3 the norman newspaper has NOTHING to do with OU

#4 if he's dad is this way, I'd rather not have that headache...but if Lon's still wants him that's his decision.

#5 honestly, I didn't think the article was that bad. They called out all 3 guys getting T's, the LEADER of the team jacking up 27ft 3's...didn't seem overly negative. Basically said the team wasn't going to go to state if they kept acting like this...which I'm sure the coach said the same thing in the locker room.

Just my 2 cents

To go one step further, a lot of times the context for articles like this comes from a coach as beat writers and coaches are close. This is probably the feeling from inside the program.

I'm confused. If OU isn't recruiting Trae, then I would assume no Trae at OU. If no Trae at OU, then why would Trae's(Tree?) ego matter about playing with any instate players?

If they aren't recruiting trae anymore what's keeping them from offering embery?

Why? They can't do anything "publicly" with an unsigned recruit. It's against NCAA rules.

I'm going to side with all those that are saying his dad is looking for any reason for him NOT to attend OU. I mean one article from the NT and he tweets but nothing about all the praise and adoration from the DOK. I don't know Trae or his style of team bball, but I don't want a 1 and done that doesn't help the other players get better. Not worth it to waste a year of development for several guys to let 1 guy shine. Again, I'm not trying to label him a me-first guy, it is what it is in HS.

Hahaha!

I'm confused. You said Lon doesn't want Trae and OU is not recruiting him anymore, something you have said before. You're saying OU's coaches have turned their sights to Keyshawn Embery, and that they would love to offer him. You go on to imply that an Embery offer hasn't been extended because Trae doesn't want to play with an instate player ((I assume you mean one who can play the point).

Here's the part I don't understand. If Lon doesn't want Trae and OU is not recruiting him now, why would anyone be concerned about offering Keyshawn Embery? What am I missing?

.

Striking out on another PG would really hurt the program. The Pritchard loss was the giant one.
