To be clear, I’m doing the worst version of box score scouting a coach imaginable, but when I read the below from his St Joe’s bio after what we’ve seen the last few years, I made an impulse buy lolJustin Scott - Associate Head Coach - Men's Basketball Coaches - Saint Joseph's University
= Stepdad
Could fill the assistant opening.
My initial reaction was no way we could afford to bring Brown in, then I saw Soonerscoop was saying Moser is looking to bring in Justin Scott as a coach along with his stepson. That’s the transactional type of deal that has to happen when you don’t have a ton of resources and I’m all for it.Coach in waiting you say? I kid I kid
Well 14 ppg isn’t mid teens. It’s the second lowest number in the teens. Mid teens implies 16 ppg or so, and I don’t see that happening for Davis.Mid teens = 14-16 ppg. Yes, I expect both to be in that range. Both will get plenty of shot opportunities to do such. I realize Davis played in a weaker conference, but he will also improve as a player…Pack should get better too. Nothing I said is too outlandish to believe. Not everything needs to be an argument.
I’m guessing pre-season this year you didn’t expect Fears or Moore to avg what they did.
Probably 42 ppg since he will improve as a player.Seems like he would be a GREAT get and would compliment Pack. Both can run the point and look to be great shooters.
Brown averages a little shy of 18 ppg at St. Joes. What does that translate to at this level for you Wichita? 6 ppg?? Or am I too high.P
Are you really making this argument??Well 14 ppg isn’t mid teens. It’s the second lowest number in the teens. Mid teens implies 16 ppg or so, and I don’t see that happening for Davis.
*Cough* Calvin Newell *cough*If you get a kid who grew up in Philly, he played some High School Ball that blows away anything we have seen in Oklahoma or Texas. St. Joe's is also part of the Big Five in Philly which means they have played some ferocious inter-city games with Villanova, Penn, Temple, Lasalle, and Drexel. Those are vicious rivalries. It is also likely that the kid has played some serious intercity street ball in Philly which means, he is a tough hombre. I have no doubt that Brown would bring toughness that is rarely seen and that would fit well in the SEC. It is something OU hasn't had.
The concept that players improve YOY….its incredible isn’t it.Probably 42 ppg since he will improve as a player.
Are you really unable to count or understand basic math? You say mid teens, then say 14, and then act like I’m the one saying something ridiculous? Would any parent of a 14-year-old say their kid is in the mid teens? Are you really making this argument??. GTFO
And yet we have had one player do that in Moser’s career. Although to be fair, hardly anyone wants to stick around and play for him long term. The concept that players improve YOY….its incredible isn’t it.
I would venture to say that 75% + of players improve their stats YOY. You got anymore great takes for the board?
You are splitting hairs man. I can’t imagine calling someone out over semantics like that…congrats. I meant between 10-20, so yeah 14-16 would be in the middle of that. what’s the proper word for that professor. Are you really unable to count or understand basic math? You say mid teens, then say 14, and then act like I’m the one saying something ridiculous? Would any parent of a 14-year-old say their kid is in the mid teens?
Completely disagree. The two we got are a level above what we got last year outside of Fears. What we don’t know is how much of the resources were spent getting those two. If it’s most, then we could be screwed. If it’s half, we are likely still good. If it’s 1/3, then we have a good chance at being a lot better by adding a few more good pieces.
I’ve said all along, land guys and recruit over them. That’s the game these days.
And yet we have had one player do that in Moser’s career. Although to be fair, hardly anyone wants to stick around and play for him long term.
We did not have Fears at this point last year, and landing a guy like him wasn't on our radar. In no way am I saying we will be better than last year, but it definitely feels better that it did 12 months ago. We were hemorrhaging talent and striking out on all of our top guys last year, some of which were lesser players than we landed this year.
