Tulsa

And I could argue Hoffman has a limited upside as well.

TU will land a coach with a higher (perceived) upside than Hoffman, I'd bet on it.

The thing that might affect this in ways no one can measure yet is what the move to the new conference brings into the equation. A somewhat stable conference affiliation, more prestige, more money, and all the things that go with a 'perceived' higher profile job might bring a guy like you suggest. However, perception only means something until they throw the ball up. I don't think there is any doubt once that happens, Hoffman can handle the job just fine. I think Tulsa needs to not worry about perception or that they might lose the guy at some point. Do what's best for their program and worry about all that other crap somewhere down the road.

Maybe. But I've yet to hear one person from any place other than this board suggest Bob Hoffman is half the coach that some of you think he is. Maybe he is just a hidden gem, but he has been around a long time, and never really gotten a chance. I tend to believe there is a reason for that. Personally, I don't like him as a recruiter at Tulsa. I think most of the success they've had is when they can simply out-recruit the teams they are going up against.

Meh. If you can win at UT PanAm you can win at Tulsa.

Maybe you need to get out more. This is the last of many places/people I've heard/read that talked very highly of his abilities.

I like Terry but I see Bob Hoffman as the best choice all things considered. Has won everywhere he's been, Oklahoma guy, and old enough to probably stay quite awhile if not retire there.

True but Bob is 57 and would project to only have about 8 years left. But he would be a good one to get.

If tulsa can keep a coach for 8 years who is halfway successful I'll be shocked.

I was referring more to the Evans would stay there forever talk. I think Hoffman is a much better choice. Hoffman probably doesn't get a strong look because he was an NAIA coach. Now he's had success at Mercer for a few years in a row.

My point on hiring the best guy is that it sells yourself short to hire a guy just because he will stay. They are moving up conferences and this hire has to be right otherwise they'll be a doormat.

I'm guessing they grab an assistant.

I was going to say Chris Jans (Marshall's #1 guy at Wichita State) but Bowling Green beat them to the punch.

TU list still believed to include three names: Hoffman, Tyndall, Underwood

Various media figures have speculated that Eastern Michigan coach Rob Murphy, Kansas assistant Norm Roberts and Florida Gulf Coast coach Joe Dooley are involved in the University of Tulsa’s search for a new basketball coach.

But from sources with legitimate knowledge of the TU process, there is a consistent list of three possible candidates: Mercer head coach Bob Hoffman (age 56), Southern Miss head coach Donnie Tyndall (43) and Stephen F. Austin head coach Brad Underwood (49).

If I were the AD this would be my short list.
1) Seth Greenberg
2) Ben Howland
3) Bob Hoffman

Norm Roberts was a disaster at St. John's, I'd be surprised if he was a serious contender for the TU job.

Hoffman, Tyndall, and Underwood are a solid final 3, if that's correct.

Interesting note from Twitter...Bryce Drew turned down Tulsa's offer to be their head coach.

Dumb if true.

Was on their board earlier today, and somebody that "appeared" to be in the know said Quin Snyder was being looked at.

also being mentioned is Tubby Smith and Rick Menzies at New Mex State
