Tyler Neal comparison

This is probably completely off, but for those of you who remember Nate Carter ( a 6'6 220 undersized power forward who played for OU a few years back) I see Tyler Neal as being a slightly bigger version of him with more range. Both are undersized 4's who can bang inside, step out and make jumpers, and also drive it to the hoop. Just my thoughts

I'm going to have to respectfully disagree. Tyler is a lot leaner and longer than Carter was, and more athletic too, but I don't think as physical. That could change of course. We haven't seen Tyler play much yet, so I could be completely wrong, but he seems like the type of player that will thrive in transition, where Nate was much better in sets. Carter could put it on the floor a bit, but he was more of a one-dribble then take a shot kind of guy. I suspect Tyler Neal will end up much better driving to the hoop than Carter ever was. I also don't think Tyler can play with his back to the basket like Nate did.

But what the heck do I know. Not much. That's not sarcasm, BTW. Also I've hardly seen Neal play at all so I could be completely off. It's hard to compare him to any recent former Sooner at this point. Matt Gipson? Jason Detrick?

He reminds me of Blake Griffin, only not quite as tall or strong or athletic but a better shooter.

Neal is a legit 6'8 (6'9 with the fro!), so once he gets stronger he won't be an undersized 4. I would just go classic midmajor type big. In some ways like a Gordon Haywood type.

If he gets a little stronger I could see him being a Ryan Minor type. I doubt his productivity would be that high, but a similar style player.

What is the point of comparing someone? I guess it gives us something to talk about but really...I don't get it. I rather compare him to guys that are currently on our team. Clark, Fitz, Osby...Can he beat those guys out or will he be their backups until they say goodbye???

I think it's fun to compare guys to other guys. I like when we have threads where we get better and better comparisons as scroll down.

I agree with Luke Axtell and Gordon Hayward (I think the kid from Butler is who Sam was talking about)

Here are some that I hope he will play like 3 years from now.

Tom Chambers
Kiki Vandeweghe
Kyle Singler
Mike Dunlevy
Matt Harpring
Wally Sczcerbiak

It's ok to compare him to someone of a different race

that's a lofty comparison to a guy who led his team to the NCAA final and was a lottery pick after his sophomore year

that being said, I love what Neal brings to the floor and think he'll be a solid player but don't see him in Hayward's league from a skill set standpoint

I like the Luke Axtell comparison.

Tyler will need to replace some of that baby fat with more muscle and a mean streak we haven't seen so far if he wants to be a factor next season. Will he beat out Fitz, Osby or Clark? Not likely. But I can see him in an important back up role that will give us more depth off the bench.

The real question is can Tyler increase his foot speed enough to guard a three or gain enough size and strength to handle a four? If he works hard on his skills and in putting on more weight by doing it the right way, he could develop into a really good player someday.

lol... dude could bring it from past the 3 point line, pump around 4 times and never miss it. most unstoppable sports move in gaming history i'm thinking.

Like who? I dont see anybody coming up with anybody of a different race, expect Nate Carter which I don't think his game is like at all. Nate was a left-handed undersized banger that used his body to get to the FT line. Neal is a slow footed finesse big man that shoots 3's.

The only other players I could think to compare him to are Detlef Schrempf and Dirk Nowitski. You just dont see a lot of slow-footed african-american big men that shoot 3's. It's not like every team has a Sam Perkins. And his game really isn't that similar to Neal either.

And obviously I dont think he's going to be an NBA All-star. It's just like the guy who compared him to Adam Morrison. I know he wasn't saying he'll be an all-american. Just trying to pick somebody everybody knows to make a comparison based on what we've seen, which to this point is really mostly clips on him playing in high school.

Sheesh. Every time there is a thread comparing people's games and somebody compares Cameron Clark to Andre Igudala or Carl Blair to Jason Kidd somebody has to point out that the OU player is not a future hall of famer. We get it. It's similar skill sets. Not predicting their future NBA success.

and yes, I know he can't do this.....

But he does have the highest vertical leap on the team, so that's why I picked Chambers. Cus lets face it, just because he can jump does not mean his game is like Shawn Kemp, Amare Stoudamire or Lebron James.
