Umoja Gibson / Jamal Bienemy

He’s raw but will hardly be asked to take people off the dribble. He needs footwork refinement & a good rip move & he’ll be fine. He’s a freak athletically & plays extremely hard & physical. He’s already able to guard the 3 front court positions, and I believe he’ll be able to switch onto almost anybody by the time he’s a junior. He also has a good looking shot & dunks everything. I don’t think he’ll ever average more than 10-12 ppg, but will be one of the better defenders & rebounders one the conference.

agree on defense...and taking folks off the dribble.

I just thought he looked "uncomfortable" when he was in, with the ball in his hand out in space. Didn't know he missed sr yr of ball in HS.

I know IF he was this big his Jr yr in HS, he would have dominated the urban league in KC...prob done real well against the top suburban schools as well...we just don't have a ton of 6'7 athletic freaks that can dominate the post like he would....but D1 is different.

Hopefully he works out. Looks like on the court he's got a team first attitude.

For what it's worth (not much, IMHO), ESPN listed JB a couple spots ahead of Gibson in their transfer rankings. I mention this only to point out that some objective basketball analysts apparently don't view JB as being as inept as some here believe.

While the national recruiting sites are just that for a good reason, sometimes local evaluators have better information than the national guys.

For example, some of the guys on this board that immerse themselves in the local talent and recruiting, wherever your locale might be, are smart enough and have enough experience to give at least a solid appraisal of a player. Perhaps better than a national guy. Simply because you see a player more and in person.

I would trust you, Coach, leopard and some others I can't think of right now for info on recruits in your local area and OU recruits over a national guy. You guys seem very knowledgeable about high school and college hoops, sounds like you watch and even "study" it. Some I have mentioned have inside sources that perhaps the national guys don't have for one reason or another. You guys have more of a concentrated interest in OU sports than a national guy. I think that's important.

Another example would be some inside info I knew about Micah Parsons during his recruiting process that some of the national recruiters may not have known.

I go to church with some of his former boys club and high school football teammates. Close friends with which he used to hang out. Sleepovers and such. They told me he had no interest in weight training and did not participate up through his senior year in HS. Told me his high school coaches and teammates would tease him in fall camp because they didn't see him during summer workouts. Because of this and several other on-the-field and off-the-field issues, I didn't want OU to touch him with a ten foot pole. He's a physical freak and has done very well so far, but I'm still glad they didn't land him.

I am no inside guy by any stretch but I heard these rumors, and others, because I was close geographically.

I think what JB's fair detractors on this board have seen over the last two years from him are mostly justified. I would trust a reasonable and knowledgeable fans' observations who has seen most or all of his games the last two years over a national guy who has seen far fewer minutes of JB'S playing time.

I agree. Many of the Nat'l guys regurgitate what they hear from the local followers....
