Washington

Finally Sherri did put Sharane on Plum and she made a great play to block the shot and grabbed the ball.

Best game I've ever seen Kaylon play.

Well the best thing she did was stay on the floor. She didn't have any of those dumb slap fouls she used to have. I was impressed with the way she used the other hand.

I said after our last game that I thought the jury was still out on Maddie. Nothing has changed.

You bet! She was active, good moves, looked to score, and played with passion.

Ortiz played like a freshman much of the time but her potential remains high.

I'll be interested to see how she is by conference play. What i see is a good ball handling but she seems hesitant to make moves and try to score. I know she's a good passer but she needs to look to score. Maybe she needs time to catch up to playing in real games. I never have really seen her play before she was hurt so I have nothing to compare. Luckily we don't need her to step in and carry us.

That's going to happen. The one guard is going to be the career scorer and has been All PAC 12 3 times and the other one scored 45. I thought they had some good players. And most of them weren't skinny little girls.

If Kaylon plays this way all year long, we may be pretty good. We only had three scorers tonight: Sharane with 26, Kaylon with 23, and Nicole with 14. Little had 12, but it really wasn't her night. Gioya with five was next. But, we did have some key baskets from people at key times.

I think we would have lost this game last year. When they challenged us, we fought back. Somebody would step up to make a play. We were lousy on free throws, or this wouldn't have been much of a game. Even on those, it was Nicole who stepped up to hit two free throws late, the only one who made two at the end.

Kaylon showed a body control that I had only seen glimpses of in previous years. She had a nice touch.

Several of the fouls were simply bad calls (I agree with Tubbs). They never did call those arm bars. Fortunately, they weren't quite good enough to make that critical.

Plum----wow!

At least for the first game better fundamentally than last years team. Still periods of rushing things, poor shot selection and wild passes. Not too bad though, particularly for the first game.

As Sherri said after the game. Breakout performance by KayKay. She should do OK if she keeps up with that effort and poise. She should handle the smaller defenders and the big slow ones. That will be most of our opponents.

Little off to a good start but sort of disappeared. Possibly because of the inside success of the team. She will be good.

Maddie looks a little hesitant. Don't know if is rust or that she has lost a step. Wonder how healthy and conditioned she is.

Ortiz a steady game for the most part. I like her at point. We seem to always be setup well when she is at the point. Showed frosh nerves on the free shots.

Kornet is much more under control this year. Carter still trying to do too much resulting in bad passes and silly fouls.

Campbell-Olds is gold. Plays her heart out.

Like both backup centers, particularly ViVi. She will score a fair amount in the paint. Strong and positions herself well. Good hands.

Still very impressed with the other Williams. Hope she keeps getting minutes. She may be our best penetrator and she has great body control in traffic.

Best job I have seen of Sherri using her depth. A little surprised that we didn't see Wyatt. Particularly when they went into the zone. But no question that we have a deep bench of people who can play.

Plum is sensational. we really played pretty solid defense. Maybe we could have had better help defense on Plum's moves but she is something special. I expected her to be a problem when I saw her frosh stats. Andrea Riley without the attitude.

Not one freshman hit a free throw (0-6).

Little made a brilliant pass to an open Kaylon.

Early, Little's defense was a problem for the Huskies. She kind of stopped.

That little three or four-foot shot was something that Kaylon line-drived last year, and it almost never went in. I don't think she missed it tonight.

We boxed out pretty well.

Vivi can do everything except hit a shot. She was good from the FT line in HS. Treece looked good on that layup she hit. We missed a lot of those last year.

LaNesia seemed to have the ball under control when she went across the middle, nice soft touch. Never drove the baseline tonight, her forte against SE.

I thought our scoring would come from our guards.

Tubbs kept making the point that Washington returned 90% of their scoring and rebounding from last year. A cold start really hurt them.
