I just saw that. They're 3-3. Those voters are either the biggest homers in the land or are remembering another year of basketball.

Guaranteed their tradition is what had them in there that high. I think our men are solid and definitely a top 50 at least team. I hope we don't fall apart like last season though bc we looked great around this team too.

The difference I see is that last year's hot start was built around good team shooting and historically great play by one player. Those things are much more apt to come and go than good defense and toughness, which are what we have seen so far this season. We will not start this season 14-2 like we did last year, but I will be very surprised if we are as inconsistent as last season.

most definitely. Billy Tubbs and Kelvin Sampson seemed to have styles as far apart as one might imagine ... but BOTH of them commented that their goal was to maximize the things they could control. Defensive effort is the smart one in my book because it travels.

Poor West Virginia. Poor, poor West Virginia (you could throw in football too)

Re: Weekly Ratings / Poll watch BIG 12 Week 4

It was Kayla Anderson from WKRN-TV (Nashville, TN) who ranked them at 23. Clearly on Holiday and missed all of the games because she ranked them ahead of Wisconsin. What is so weird about her ranking is that she hasn't had Florida ranked all year!

She also ranked LSU and Arkansas 2 spots above Florida. SEC Bias?

Some see the first NET rankings as kind of screwy (I'll admit there are some head-scratchers among the top 25).

I'm still trying to wrap my head around the components that make up this new NET ranking. Judging from the initial results, the system appears to reward teams with very good records despite some very weak SOS....basically raw efficiency (meaning beef up your record against cupcakes and blow them out).

Case in point...Ohio State. They are #1 in NET this week.... after this murderer's row for a 6-0 start: Cincinnati, Fort Wayne, Creighton, SC State, Samford and Cleveland State, of which only Cincinnati and Creighton were away from home.

My thought is using NET to determine who makes the field...and then using Kenpom and/or Torvik (T-Rank) for seeding. But that makes too much sense and thus, would never happen.

Re: Weekly Ratings / Poll watch BIG 12 Week 4

Creighton and Cincy away from home are pretty good wins.

still not ranked...wow

Re: Weekly Ratings / Poll watch BIG 12 Week 7

One spot out of the AP poll and two spots out of the coaches' poll. Nothing to worry about, win two games this week and we will be in the next poll; a loss (or two) this week, and we won't. All this stuff will get sorted out pretty quickly once conference play starts and all the Power 5 schools start playing comparable schedules. As of now, there are still plenty of teams that are ranked because of preseason rankings and/or because they have beaten a bunch of bad teams. But things are slowly changing -- we got more votes than KSU in both polls, for example, which is a huge change from a couple weeks ago when they were No. 12.
