I'd be happy with the top 6 in the dance and the bottom 4 with only 3 Big12 wins each, all against the bottom 4. ;)

I had a feeling we'd barely creep in, if at all. I'm especially disappointed in the coaches poll. By this point in the season, they should be looking at results, not preseason expectations and hype.

Re: Weekly Ratings / Poll watch BIG 12 Week 8 Polls TBD

Just win games and the polls will take care of themselves. After last year downfall I guess many voters are not convinced if OU really is a top 25..dunno and don't care at this point in time

If the voters in both polls don't have a clear sense by now of the difference between this year's team and last year's, they have no business having a vote.

Now is when the losses will understandably start to become more frequent; if we're not solidly in the top 25 by now, we aren't likely to be -- unless this team is even better than we think.

23rd today

Re: Weekly Ratings / Poll watch BIG 12 Week 8

Yep. 23 in the AP and 25 in the coaches poll.

Unfortunately, no team we have beaten so far is ranked in either poll. Wisconsin, our only loss, is at #22 in the AP and #23 in the coaches poll.

Perhaps that will change Wednesday night?

On second thought, after reading the Muni thread, perhaps not.

Re: Weekly Ratings / Poll watch BIG 12 Week 9

The polls are going to be interesting when they come out tomorrow. We may drop a spot, but I believe we will remain in the top 25 (AP). A lot of ranked teams have lost this week since conference play started up:
5. Kansas got blown out
6. Nevada got blown out
9. FSU got blown out (but left their starters in till the end to halve a 26 point deficit.
13. Kentucky lost
14. Ohio State lost at home
16. Marquette got blown out
21. Indiana lost
22. Wisconsin lost
23. OU lost
24. Nebraska lost once already this week and is losing again today
25. Iowa got blown out

I could see Iowa State jumping into the poll after yesterday. TCU could also make an appearance.

I'm not sure it will stay that way. OState's pretty bad. West Virginia and Baylor are way down.

Losing to OSU at home would have been a Quadrant-3 loss (a loss at home to a team with a NET ranking between 76-160). You're exactly right 04, it would have been a "bad" loss.....technically speaking. However, if we were to lose to OSU in Stillwater (which we won't), it would only be a Q-2 loss.....as referenced below:

Quadrant 1: Home 1-30, Neutral 1-50, Away 1-75
Quadrant 2: Home 31-75, Neutral 51-100, Away 76-135
Quadrant 3: Home 76-160, Neutral 101-200, Away 135-240
Quadrant 4: Home 161-353, Neutral 201-353, Away 241-353

***as I type this, I stand corrected. I just looked up OSU's NET ranking. They are now at 74....so in a snapshot, it would NOT have been a bad loss on Saturday. But as 04 referenced, unless OSU does improve, I expect their NET ranking to continue to fall throughout conference as the losses mount. And we don't need to lose to Baylor or WV either. And remember, these Quadrant wins/losses are only looked at in judgment at the end of the season to determine a team's resume.

Re: Weekly Ratings / Poll watch BIG 12 Week 10

I think that the Big 12 is showing that it isn't as down as people thought a few weeks ago. ISU is clearly better than last season. Tech is playing as well as last year, and I think TCU and Texas will prove to be at least as good as last season. If we continue playing well, we will be better than last year. Baylor, OSU, and W VA are obviously down, and KSU is not nearly as good as so many people thought. It looks like there may be more of a divide between the haves and have nots than last year, when there was a huge logjam in the middle.

I think OU is a better "TEAM" than last year

Re: Weekly Ratings / Poll watch BIG 12 Week 10

These top 25 teams have already lost this week:
  • 11. Auburn (blownout at Ole Miss)
  • 14. Mississippi St (lost to a bad South Carolina team)
  • 15. NC State (lost at home to UNC)
  • 16. Ohio State (lost to arguably the worst team in the Big 10 - Rutgers)
  • 17. Houston
  • 20. Iowa State
  • 23. OU
  • 24. St. Johns
  • 25. TCU
