I didn't think he wanted to coach but Traber said Doug wants the OSU job. Despite his OSU past I think he would make a great college coach and assemble a great staff. I hope Traber is wrong or that OSU is too stupid to hire him because I think he would make them very good in a very short time.

He has no experience coaching or teaching or recruiting or managing. There is nothing to indicate he would be a good coach. His lifetime record is 0-0.

He has basketball knowledge and the gift of gab, which serve him well in his current profession.

Yeah. Those "broadcaster to coaching" jumps have been really successful.

I hope they hire Gottlieb. That program will be more of a train wreck than it already is.

i haven't listened to sports radio in about 10 years but that would be sort of hilarious.

but, really, no way that happens.

My OSU buddies that are close to basketball told me that they are stuck with Ford..He signed a 10 year contract and the buy out would be around 10 million and then OSU would have to hire another coach for even more money...and according to them.they do not have that kinda money

Doug has always been mildly kind to Oklahoma after Eddie gave him a second chance transfer.

my pops says the same thing.

and he's pretty close to people.

Gottlieb would be Travis ford 2. So yeah...would be fine with me.

He only has 1 less ncaa win than ford!!

i agree that Gottlieb is an unlikely candidate due to lack of experience; however, in the NBA I believe they have hired guys as head coach with zero coaching experience.

I don't want the following coaches anywhere NEAR OSU:

> Gregg Marshall
> Greg McDermott
> Mark Few
> Shaka Smart

Anyone who didn't make the list is either employed by a high major school, semi-retired, or not a threat to improve their team.

Doug Gottlieb fits one of those three categories.

You could mark off Few and Smart. They've turned down higher profile jobs than Stillwater.

Greg McDermott? He was terrible at Iowa State, his son is the only thing saving him right now...and a much weaker MoValley than usual.

You beat me to it. I would be fine if osu hired McDermott. But Creighton is in the Big East....albeit a weak Big East. Nova is the only other good team in that conference.

You know who else this described before they were hired? Fred Hoiberg. And he's doing just fine.

Maybe Gottleib would be great, or maybe he wouldn't, but I'm not worried about his "lack of experience."

I have no idea if he would even want the job... it seems like he has a pretty sweet gig.... but if we can't get my #1 choice (Greg Marshall), then I wouldn't mind giving Gottleib a shot. The dude is a walking basketball encyclopedia... I think he could make a good coach.

It can't be worse than what we have right now.

Yeah - no way either of those guys come.

Greg Marshall is an interesting case. He's kind of an "east coast" guy, but he's smack in the middle of Big 12 country right now.

I wonder if Creighton leaving the Valley might have an influence on how long he wants to stay at Wichita State.

That's kind of an exaggeration. We would have to buy out Ford's contract, but it's nowhere near $10 million. That said, the buyout is an issue.

It's an issue that, as soon as 2 weeks ago, I would have said was a "deal breaker" in terms of whether or not Ford would be fired after this season.

But all of the stuff that's happened in the past 2 weeks has basically united the OSU fans/donors on the issue: everyone wants him gone.

The question is, will one of the big donors step up and help with the buyout so that we can make a run at Greg Marshall? TBD.

IF they did hire Gottlieb ... would they issue him a school credit card for expenses?
