What is the deal with all of these ESPNU only games?

I'm glad we finally got ESPNU in Albuquerque about a year ago. I did miss a few OU games of the previous 3-4 years, not to mention some replays of games that I like (like OU-Texas from 2010).

In a way, we might be better off that it's not like it was for so long on "Big Monday." Usually Bedlam would be stuck right after a Syracuse-Georgetown FOULFEST that went well into our telecast time (even when one team or the other was up by 20, they'd keep fouling and calling timeouts in the last minute of regulation). :facepalm :facepalm

Then of course, the "main" ESPN wouldn't replay our game later in its entireity. We'd get the replay of the Syracuse-Georgetown all over again. :eddie187_jpg_xs:

But no there wouyld never be an ESPN bias. thats unheard of #sarcasimfont

Not sure that I understand all the ragging. I pay for the sports and information package, but it's not like I happily do it to estabilish my credibility as a "real sports fan". If not for sports I wouldn't need cable at all.

Cable TV is a racket, but necessary to watch a wide array of sports, and anyone who doesn't get irritated about it isn't a true money fan.

Now, screw this silly thread. It's Bedlam, and lets whip Poke butt and get the hell out of that hellhole.

Well, complaining about OU being on ESPNU is like complaining about the program getting too much exposure... especially if it's just so that you don't have to add $8 to your cable bill.

The goal would be to have EVERY game on a national network... the more that are on locally means that people don't really want to see that game.

SO, I guess the main point is that if OU basketball is important to you, adding the extra package really shouldn't be a big deal.

If you don't have Australian Rules Football TV, you aren't a real sports fan!

I agree and would add that you need the FIFA channel as well as some of the international racing channels to truly be a sports fan. I hear Candad is working on a Curling Network. Talk about a true sports fan.

I can understand that. I'm not upset about exposure for OU, of course. I just hate how it seems there are more "packages" and less content on cable then ever before. In my opinion basic cable should consist of sports and information only, and if you want to see a crappy reality show, edited movie, or serial drama you can pay for it. I'd rather not be forced to flip through 10 channels of crap to get to news or sports.

To answer your question re: local games...the Big 12 Network appears to be on KTUL this year. However, last Saturday there was not a OU or OSU game on the package, so the games were relegated to something called "KTUL DT3" which apparently is not on cable. I don't know where to get it other than over the air.

I must add:

For the many thousands of OU fans (like me) that live outside the OKC and Tulsa metro areas, we could not be happier that the Sooner games are not always televised "locally" but are now "relegated" to ESPNU.

Still, SS, I hate it that you had to shell out the money for the Cox sports package.

Not poor, just refuse to throw away money on stupid **** I'll watch about 5 times a year (if that). But hey, that's the American way! I know several people that are always complaining about not having enough money and then you go over to their house and they've got the same cable TV package that Lebron probably has at his house. Sound investment. Oops, sorry for ratting you out, Bounce.

just giving you a hard time.

I know it's tough being poor.

If you don't have ESPNU, you're personally trying to take down the OU basketball program. Noted.

I remember something called "ESPN Plus". Not sure if it still exists, but this is what used to happen:

If OU's game was not selected for ESPN, it was flipped to ESPN Plus. ESPN Plus games were broadcast here in Tulsa on KJRH, the local NBC affiliate. However, I believe that national viewers could see these games if they had the ESPN Full Court package. I'm assuming this doesn't happen anymore?

I refuse to pay Cox even more money for their "Sports & Information pack", so I don't get ESPNU. So the only way for me to watch the KU game and to watch tonight is to sit at my computer for 2 hours. That's fun. It's a pretty sad commentary on the state of basketball in Oklahoma when a Bedlam game tips at 6 pm and is only broadcast by ESPNU.

Make an investment if you want to watch.

This is the Big XII Network I mentioned above. ESPN+ basically rebranded to the Big XII Network. Doug Bell is still there and everything!

If you only had the Sports Pack through Cox during the OU basketball season it would boil down to $2.67 a month. Considering this allows you to watch anywhere from 6-8 extra OU games, that's a fairly cheap price to pay.

Not to mention when games are broadcast on ESPNU they generally provide better picture quality than games broadcast on local networks. Not to mention you can access any of them through ESPN3, which gives you another high quality option to watch the game.

Now, I maybe a poor college student. But I'm glad I've been able to budget an extra $2.67 a month so I can watch the basketball team I love (not to mention numerous other college basketball games.)

We need to figure out a way SS can save $2.67 a month on other expenditures in order to watch OU basketball on ESPNU...any ideas?

The issue is that I feel like I already pay Cox an exorbitant amount of money for what I currently have, and that total seems to magically increase even more every other month or so. I'd rather not give them even more of my money. If forced to do so I will watch for "free" on ESPN3. Sorry I offended all of the true fans by logging this complaint.

Just ditch Cox.

Basically every other TV provider in the country (possibly excepting Time Warner because they suck too) includes ESPNU in their standard package.

Or get an Xbox or Apple TV. Then you can watch the ESPN3 games on your TV.

He could probably recycle aluminum cans and make that much a month.

Do it SS, we're behind you.

We've already got a DirectTv dish on our house and all the wiring done. Would be as simple as flipping a switch. One of the reasons I've stayed with Cox is because I thought I would miss out on local OU basketball broadcasts but hell now it seems the opposite is true.
