What? No one is talking about OU's visitor this weekend?

Sophia wasn't a JUCO player, she did make the Big 12 conference team 3 years in a row though.

I agree with Norm, I am tired of basically getting JUCO's for a 1 and done, if you get that. We need to continue to push and develop 4 year talent.

I was wrong. My 63-year-old brain sometimes slips a cog...

:)

I want to point out the obvious about Nicole's position...

Soon (please, NOT THIS YEAR) the low post slot at OU will be wide open. If you are a talented player there, what's not to like at OU? The Sooners will be stacked at 1-3, with promising players soon to make a name at the 4. The right player will visit and see the talent and cohesiveness of these players.

Don't worry, be happy. Sherri will get her "guy".

I like the way you think. Especially since the Sooner Coaching staff always plays their recruiting close to the vest. There still may be a diamond in the rough out there just waiting for an offer from Sherri, That's kind of why I don't get too bent out of shape until the recruiting season is over.

YCN,
Before signing Griffin, Sherri had a full recruiting cycle the year before where she was graduating her only center and Texas had 3 legit center prospects.
Not a single one visited and this after the OU's great back to back run in the tourney.
Not Sherri's fault, but just because OU has an obvious need does not mean recruits will factor that into their decision process.
OU could not even get a hint of interest in Kelsey Bone, twice, when she would have had a chance to walk into the starting spot.

Just not that many girls around that are really tall or true posts that can run. Most college teams play without a true big, and instead, use a bunch of 6 to 6'1 girls in the post.

Then there is the issue that a lot of good players in the 6 to 6'2 range, don't want to go to a school where they are one of the tallest players and end up getting stuck playing inside. (just like in the boys game, everyone wants to be a shooting point guard instead of bang inside).

Case in point, it is my understanding that the Ellis kid at Booker T is looking hard at that issue, and that one of the recruiting sales pitches being used by some schools to her is the existence of a big on campus, thus her not having to play inside. Although she is tough as a boot, it is my understanding that she wants to be a perimeter player.

Sherri has always played so close to the vest with regard to recruiting, it is hard to know whether to be encouraged or concerned. Usually, we just find out sometime after signing day.

However, she knows she needs an interior player in the class and so I sure she and the staff are working on it. As for whether they are going to be successful, who knows. I sure like how our perimeter game is shaping up though. Current players and verbals are all good players. I wish Walker had stayed with her pledge and Jessica Washington had come on board. They were about the two best I have seen in Oklahoma. It's early yet on her, but the Ellis kid may the best out of Okie land in years.

That's true but, you seldom see the elite teams playing with a 6'1" center.

I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think Sherri has landed a top 5 since Abi -- and by that I mean someone in the top 50 nationally ranked. I think the same holds true on the 4. Jeffcoat, perhaps?

Nicole G. was a back-up signing, if I remember correctly, after we struck out on some bigs.

I have confidence that Sherri can pull in the 1 through 3's like crazy, but she either is whiffing like crazy on the post and PF or she isn't trying. And I don't believe she isn't trying.

Oliver,
Well
It's a finite small population to start.
OU's perceived academic reputation hurts recruiting nationally v Stanford, UNC, Duke, etc.
Geography always plays a role in recruiting to some degree. In state seems to providing
a great pipeline of guards. Kind of like OU in football recruiting could use more blue chip in state OTs and DTs recruits (0 recruits at both spots), the same year it has two national top ten QBs.
Kaylon is the only 6-2+ athletic big from in state since Brewer.

So some of this Sherri cannot fix.
Not sure what the answer is, but getting back to a final four likely won't happen until Sherri has all big 12 caliber PFs/Centers

Ortiz sure has a funny shot delivery, starting just about her waist and pushing to ball toward the basket. She may get lots of those blocked in college shooting that way.

I think perhaps that is caused by playing at an early age and not making much change in her form as she got older and stronger. It will be interesting to see if her form changes in college.
