watching the Houston/Wichita State game reminds me how nice it is to see the effort Kelvin's teams expend defensively.

That kind of effort does endear you to the players.

My thoughts exactly. No one ever accused Kelvin’s teams of taking plays off on defense. I would like to see more of that from our players. They’re capable. I have seen them do it at crunch time. Just not enough IMHO.

Wasn't kelvin teams known to be on the dirty side a bit?

Yes, Kelvin’s teams had that reputation. I saw it as an in your face toughness.

We just weren't lucky enough to have message board coaches on the bench today. I'm sure everything would have been perfect if we had.

My only complaint is not fouling at the end of regulation when OSU hit the 3-pointer.

I like to foul because three or four things have to happen to tie the game up whereas only one has to happen when they shoot the 3-pointer.

But that's LK's philosophy and he's consistent.

OSU played well today, give them credit.

I mean, anybody on here could have also coached the team to a loss today.

Lon has done a great job as coach of OU, but his late game coaching cost us the game in regulation and gave us no shot at the end of OT.

If we foul in that situation at the end of regulation, we very likely win the game. I don't know why we didn't, but I believe it cost us the game.

Lon’s philosophy actually IS to foul. Always has been. His mistake was that awful decision to put on a full court press and let OSU beat us down the court.

Oklahoma State shot 40% from the floor, 30% from three, and 57% from the line. That should not be good enough to win. We scored 25 points below our average in regulation, and didn’t even turn it over that. We played much worse than they played well.

So why did OU play defense like they were avoiding a foul on the last possession?

I totally agree you can't play like OU did the first 15 minutes but that is as good as OSU has played that I have seen. They were not the better team but they were the tougher team.

I have no idea. Literally nothing about what we did on the last defensive possession made any sense, so it’s hard to properly analyze any of the individual aspects of it.

You're right Baker....LK just said the plan was to foul.

I stand corrected, the time before this happened in another game LK said to foul and whoever didn't do it.

That's the trouble with too many fans. They assume that what players are doing on the court is exactly what they were told to do in the huddle. That's not always the case.

What will be lost in all the hand-wringing about the bad shots taken late in the game is that the game was basically lost in the 1st 10 minutes when the team was down 25-6.

And if the team, especially Odomes and Young play good defense at the end of regulation they don't shoot an uncontested 3 pointer and it probably never goes to OT.

This has become a very disturbing pattern....poorly played first halves (at least in stretches) in conference road games. If this team could figure out a way to start well and then sustain it, most of the hand-wringing would disappear. I wish I had the answer, but from my amateur viewpoint, it looks to be an issue of lack of focus and/or intensity.

they are accustomed to their offense being the backbone of their success. but that doesn't travel nearly so well on the road. you have to make up by being a bugaboo on defense. we just havent figured that out yet. it will come.

Maybe now the jock-sniffing from this board, where OU is the best team in the Big 12, can end. If OU doesn't turn it around quick, they will fall hard out of the top 25
