Who is you favorite post Sampson Sooner?

Roe and Spangler. I have a natural affinity for bigs.

Something about that statement doesn't sound exactly right! :ez-roll:

I have an affinity for the role players and to that end, I like Cade Davis as one of my favorite, although Buddy, Blake, Osby and Crocker are tough to beat

Don't see how anyone would go with anybody but Blake...that's like saying your favorite player from Tubbs era was anybody other then Tisdale. Just blastphemous.

Because some of us are old enough and mature enough to not necessarily have to have the best player be our favorite player.

Blake Griffin. At OU he was an All-American all the way, using the very best meaning of that phrase. He was an All-American young man, from and All-American family that produced an All-American basketball player.

I try to not imagine how deep the downward spiral might have been for the OU basketball program if Blake had went to another university.

By all accounts, Crocker was a problem in the year when the program imploded. He was a senior and could ahve provided leadership, but instead exacerbated the issues.

My memory is not the best, but that seems like news to me.

Austin Johnson was signed by Sampson, I believe.

To answer this question... I think Cousins will end up being one of those guys people talk about for a long time. Does everything well.

Yes, he was. If Austin had been a post Sampson player, he would have been in my top three. It's unbelievable how many injuries that kid battled through just to stay on the court. Talk about a warrior!

he was 1 year sampson and three capel. I'd consider him as a post sampson sooner

I have never heard this at all. i think you are just making crap up. With all the problems we had that year, crocker was by far the least of them

Go easy on Sperry. He's not far off from the truth. We heard several times during the offseason leading into Crocker's senior year, that players were not buying into the offseason workout program. That's where Tony Crocker could have exerted himself as a team leader. Granted, not everyone is a leader...some will always be followers. I don't hold that against Tony, but that doesn't mean Sperry is making anything up.

Hield, but that may just be recency bias kicking in to pick him over Blake. Has to be one or the other.

So what does he mean "by all accounts" because I have never heard he was a problem. not from one account...well besides sperry

And even if he was, he was small potatoes compared to others on that team...yet he lists Crock as his least fav?

Oh jeez. I see that now.

Anyone who lists Tony Crocker as one of their least favorite players obviously wasn't present for this:

As for my answer, it's hard to pick over Blake. But I think the hole that Buddy pulled the program out of is a bigger hole than the one Blake pulled us out of... but, obviously - Lon, Isaiah, Spangler, etc. deserve credit for that as well.

Also, the fact that Cade Davis finished his career as a 1,000+ point scorer is nothing short of amazing. I don't think I've ever seen a player give everything he had to quite that extent.

With that said.... Buddy. My answer is Buddy.

I heard exactly the same thing that Crocker was one of the leaders against off-season workouts before his senior year. I don't know if it was true or not, but it was even discussed on this board.

Here are a couple of posts from previous years after a quick search from other posters regarding the offseason workouts.

I also remember claims that Crocker and WW led a revolt to not participate in summer workouts following the great 8 season.

Willie was one of the guys who led the team revolt of summer workouts. If I recall correctly, it was him and Crocker after the 09 elite 8 team.

The locker room was in disarray during Crocker's senior year. We had a revolt against summer workouts. We still had Willie Warren and then added TMG who didn't like each other. Then they had a locker room fight after WW slept with a teammates girlfriend. It was no wonder that we had 3 Parade All-Americans plus Tony Crocker plus Austin Johnson and still managed a losing record that season.

We needed leadership from our veterans and from our coach. One or more of the cancers should have been kicked off the team. Gone. Honestly, that was my biggest disappointment with Capel …. although I bet he learned from it and won't make the same mistake in his next coaching gig.

I also put a little blame on Crocker even if the offseason rumor wasn't true. As a senior and team captain, I wish he had stood up to some of the team shenanigans. Maybe he tried. It's enough smoke for me to keep him off my "most favorite" list even though I respected him for sticking to his LOI commitment when Sampson left.

My gosh, that brings back some unpleasant memories. Those days are long gone, thankfully. I don't think that Coach Kruger, with his experience, would allow such things to fester in his basketball program. Trouble makers are probably shown the door, if there are any trouble makers. We are now looking forward to a hard-working team where three senior starters will be getting their degrees next year. These are good days for OU basketball.

if anyone doesn't remember this they either have alzheimers, amnesia, are new to this board or don't pay attention.

We discussed it ad nauseum back when it all went down.
