Who is you favorite post Sampson Sooner?

if anyone doesn't remember this they either have alzheimers, amnesia, are new to this board or don't pay attention.

We discussed it ad nauseum back when it all went down.

Yep. And it's even worse, because Crocker was a senior and should have been the leader of that team among the players.

some people aren't made out to be leaders.

maybe there was stuff going on that we don't know about.

But I question the motive of anybody that would choose tmg, tiny, or ww over crocker for favorite sooner

I loved watching willie warren as a freshman. Man that kid could play that year. I was glad he came back at the time...but to think of if he woulda left after his freshman season soooooooo many things woulda been different for him. First off he would been viewed as a great one and done for OU. Yeah he probably still woulda struggled to stay on an NBA roster but if you remember right he was projected as a top 10 pick that year. If he woulda left and got picked he could have very well been a lottery pick and that would of given him a guaranteed contract...which in turn ALWAYS leads to multiple chances and more leeway strictly because the team who picked you doesn't want to give up on you. I as an OU fan woulda always looked at him and said man he was good and a fun one to watch that one year. Instead we think more about his sophomore year.

At first I wanted to just disagree. But you are right, at least for me. I was happy when he came back. Very. But the next year? Not so much. Could have been a great one but something just was not there.

Blake (or as Willie use to call him, "my double-double") wasn't there when Willie was a sophomore. He seemed to be the perfect companion and teammate for WW. It was a relationship that worked well his freshman season when OU went to the Elite Eight.

That changed the following year when Blake was no longer around, and Willie had to depend on TMG and Tiny. It was common knowledge back then that those three didn't like each other too much.

One thing is certain, that had to be one of the worst seasons in college basketball history with three burger boys on the roster. It didn't help that Willie was injured for part of that season, but I have always believed that the lack of team chemistry had more to do with it than anything.

I don't know how the answer can be anything other than Blake.

question is favorite, not best. people have their own criteria.

hard to not like Blake, he's an Oklahoman.....bad, nationwide (to quote ZZ Top when they didn't suck).

I would have said Tony Crocker....i'm out of state and don't know much about him being a problem. He beat Syracuse, and that meant a lot to me. and he played D on the other team's best player the Elite 8 year. that was pretty unselfish. i respected that. he gave up his upperclassman numbers. something like that.

I know. It just seems weird to me. I was incredibly nervous all tournament, not only because I wanted to keep playing, but because I knew I might never get a chance to watch Blake again in an OU uniform. I'd love to be wrong, but it's a very real possibility that we may never get to witness a player of that caliber here again. I just don't know what the knock is...homegrown, great attitude, most team success.

Maybe there are 2 questions:
- Who is your favorite Sooner not named Griffin who played under Capel?
- Who is your favorite Sooner who played under Kruger?

Favorite under Capel not named Blake and not recruited by Sampson would be Cade Davis. He gave everything he had his Sr year, and I don't blame him for being put in an impossible situation.

Under Kruger it's buddy for me.

Cade Davis was an awesome Sooner. He would have been an absolutely perfect glue guy and 4th or 5th option on a good team. Instead he was stuck on some awful teams, and still did an admirable job.

Mine would have been Blake if not for a Grady County boy (Spangler). I'm from Grady County (born and raised there) and went to K-8 at a Grady County Independent district that did not have a high school, and we played Bridge Creek, which back then also didn't have a high school. They were in our conference. So, for me, that supersedes how much I loved having Blake Griffin in a Sooner uniform.

If not for that, Blake would have been my choice. I actually root for him when he plays against the Thunder and I would never boo him at a Thunder game.

I never thought we would have another Oklahoma player who matched up to Wayman and then Blake arrived. So, at some point, we will have another player on that level who is a local product.
