Most OU fans love football, as do I, but OU basketball is my true love.

People always ask me why I love OU basketball more than a national champion football program and for me its simple.

I love to follow recruiting. And in basketball 1 player can completely turn around a program. 1 blake griffin or 1 kevin durant or 1 carmello anthony can make things so much more exciting to watch and make a team an immediate contender.

Also, its so much easier to track how well recruits are doing. Its easy to track pledgers success or whomever.

In football, one player cannot come in as a freshman and change a program around (for the most part I know there may be exceptions). So recruiting is not nearly as exciting in football as in basketball because odds are players in football wont get much playing time until their sophomre or junior season.

As well its much more difficult to track recruits because there is so many players on a football team.

I think what im trying to say is since recruiting is really easy to follow in basketball I feel like the program is "family" and I have more of an attatchment to the players than just having the attatchment to the name OU.

I love all OU sports but MBB is my favorite because of my time in the student section while at OU and this website.

I just got more connected as a fan than with other sports.

That, and basketball has always been my favorite sport to play.

I don't know if it's my favorite but it's definitely a co-favorite.

For me, basketball was the top sport in my high school so I always had an interest. Having played a little bit, I can relate better to basketball. Fans are closer to the action and can see player reactions better in basketball than in football.

Hard to say. Growing up dad and I went to all the home games and a lot of the roadies in football(1972-1977). While at OU I went to a lot of games with the Neks and enjoyed the whole atmosphere thing. Since then i've been in and out as far as it goes. While I lived in Vegas in the 90's - without an internet really - while we struggled and the only news I got was from my dad.

We always went to BB games. My dad went to school with Denny Price and he always left us tickets for the old Holiday tourney in KC and for some local road games. I got to see Alvin play and then when I got to school Bliss was there. I loved watching Billy's teams and went to as many local games and tourney games as I could. Skeeter and Choo were a couple of my favorites. I've gotten to see three of the best - IMO - close up - Adams, Wayman, and Mookie - and all but Adams' teams were competitive.

We also used to go to Omaha when the Sooners were there and I really have enjoyed the softball team.

I'd really have to say that my favorite to watch are the girls. There's something about the women's game that just seems more like real basketball. Although we have not won a NC yet yet our girls have given us some great moments and some thrilling games. I think Caton Hill was my first favorite player and to this day wish we had more like her. I know people poo poo women's basketball but I've seen some of the most competitive contests between two women's teams(And not just OU). I watch my DVD of us beating Tenn and Pat Summit and denying her her epic win. How often do you have a packed LNC, Brent and Bobby on the call, and someone like Whitney exploding before America? At the time my dad was transferring his game tapes to DVD and that was about the last ones he made. It's also something my whole family enjoys(Not that the other sports aren't). I usually try to watch the girls play with my mom. I don't want to say it's a bonding thing because we have done bonded years ago but it's very enjoyable. mom isn't feeble but she'd rather not venture out to games so that's what we do. I've even taken my daughter to a few games and she knows nothing about OU. At the KU game she had to ask me why I was so mad at Vegas.

Dunno. Just the meanderings of an old fan.

basketball is a co favorite .. and it might be my favorite to watch in person ..

Basketball has always been my favorite sport. The little country school (1st- 8th grades) I attended in the mountains of West Virginia didn't have a football team. We didn't have a gym for basketball either, so we played on an outdoor, dirt court in all kinds of weather. The backboard was made of rough-cut lumber and the pole was from the straightest Yellow Poplar (sometimes called Tulip Poplar) tree we could find. Even the nets were a luxury item back then. Oh, I was also too skinny to play football (wish I could say that now) :ez-laugh:

I'm a huge OU football fan, but basketball is my first love!

I don't know that I would say it is my favorite sport but going to the home games from 88-94 was great. Particularly 88-the Duke loss. Foobtall wasn't as exiciting because you knew the result. In basketball OU played UNLV, Pitt, Arizona, KU, Missouri and several highly ranked teams winning them all at home. The stadium was packed and loud for those games.

Unlike OU football, the season isn't over after 1 loss...

It's my favorite because I played it all thru childhood and adolescent years and still play it today. Every summer I went to camps and loved to play basketball year round.

I love the sport and I love college athletics, so with the 2 combined it can't be beat.

My love for OU basketball is why I took it so personal when Joe hired an unqualified coach and basically took a gamble with something I love very much. I thought it had more value than he deemed at the time. I'm glad to see he's decided it is worth something and put up the money to get us a winning coach.

it always was my favorite during the Sampson era. Capel killed it for me and now the fact that college basketball is essentially dying, I have flipped to football being number 1

Baseball is my favorite, but basketball is a close second. First game I ever went to after transferring in mid-year in '98 was Bedlam basketball. It's been above football for me at OU ever since.

how exactly is basketball dying?

Sooner04 stated it above. :oldwt356:

Watching Wayman play really made OU basketball so much fun. I have been a huge fan ever since. I love all things OU and like the other sports too, but OU basketball always will be my #1

Basketball has been my favorite sport to watch and play. Loved MJ growing up, and fell in love with college basketball and March Madness. The best month of the year hands down. The cinderellas, the upsets, buzzer beaters, and legendary moments! How can you not love that?

My mom raised me to be a Sooner and I will die a Sooner.

Maybe this topic doesn't relate to me, but it's not my favorite OU sport. That still goes to football. But I think it's just football over basketball in general. Basketball is probably down the list behind football, baseball and just ahead of soccer. This is a big change for me personally, as I loved basketball when I was kid and through high school.

If OU didn't play college basketball, I wouldn't care about it at all.

I'd bet that some of the older folk who are more OU BBall fans then football grew up in the Tubbs era... man that was some fun basketball to watch.

Bring back Brent Price and of course my favorite William "Cheese" Davis.
