Why was a charging foul not called against ND when she ran into Abuke?

On the other hand, Abuke created the contact by stepping into the path of a player running backwards. She stepped in front of her 1 or 2 steps before the collision - with the intention of causing the contact. I would suggest a rule change to say if you cause contact with a defenseless player, you are responsible and guilty.

But that is NOT today's rule, so why did ND not get hit with a charging foul?

It's not charging because it was a defender that ran into the screen. The ball handler was not involved.

A contact foul could be called. But, you rarely seen a call on someone for running into a screen unless they send the screener flying. That was kind of the purpose of the screen, to keep you from following the ball handler.

Midcourt screens are quite common. The announcers correctly laid the blame on Lloyd's teammate for not loudly warning her. A Texas player was once flattened by Leah Rush by a similar (completely legal) screen. Texas fans screamed bloody murder under the assumption that the rules didn't apply when it was their player flattened.

Whenever I see a play like that, I'm reminded of Eduardo being knocked cold by Mateen Cleaves.

Agbuke, as seems to be the norm lately, was hit with a Flagrant 1 foul tonight. Seems like the same thing happened in the last game or two.

Griner left some big shoes to fill, but Agbuke fell short...
