2019 Recruiting

So why come here and be miserable every day?

We have a 4 and 5 star in the 2019 class but its not enough. Seem like a guy that wants LK fired, Probably wanted Bob Stoops fired as well?

Comparing OU to TT and WVU? LOL...

He's giving his opinion? Why can't he just express concern about recruiting and not get blasted?

Who is the 5 star?

Sure he can. If thats blasted then I apologize.

Harmon is 5 star. We all know that.

I don't think most of us have an issue with anyone expressing an opinion. We do have an issue with this particular poster because of his "I know people will bash me for this, but [inset negative take here]" routine. When your takes are 100% negative toward OU's basketball program, I think you should expect to get occasionally blasted on a message board for OU basketball fans. If the NCAA granted LeBron college eligibility tomorrow and he signed with OU, this guy would likely complain that he is too old and isn't a great pure shooter. Garbage like that gets old when it is never balanced out by any positive takes. Heck, in this one thread, he has managed to compare OU unfavorably to Tech, West Virginia, and Georgia.

I've made this claim a few times, but it never catches traction... Why exactly is this recruiting class so important?

PG: Devion Harmon (5 star)/
SG: Austin Reaves(4 star)/
SG: Jamal Bienemy (4 star)/
PF: Brady Manek (All big 12 caliber player)/Kristian Doolittle
C: Hannes Polla/Kur Kuath

If Kruger can't win with what we already has, his days are numbered. OU honestly needs to go find 3 juco specialists to support the core group that is already in place.

We honestly don't even know half the juco players because they transfer in, don't quality for D1 to the 11th hour, etc and land in junior college in time for fall semester. We know Khalid Thomas and Wilfried Likayi, who would be fantastic gets, but they are now very high profile. Khalid Thomas has about 30 offers now, for example. If OU lands them, great, they are going to be very good players.

But I see recruiting needs for this season as filling holes more than needing to seek best player available. If Khalid Thomas comes here, he will start over Bienemy most likely.

  • Backup point guard
  • Couple of shooters/slashers off the bench
  • High caliber rebounder/defender for the paint

Strike 1 of most likely many. I got ripped when I said OU would struggle to fill their recruiting class with players who could truly compete at a Big 12 level. I will not change my opinion until i am proven wrong, but I doubt it will happen this year. 4 more spots, and not a single kid OU leads on.

I don't see Reeves as a 4 star, but I will give you those 2. But what I do see are 4 open spots that do not need to be filled by 3 stars and JuCo's who really should not be at OU. The Sooners do not have a system that allows for a bunch of 3 stars to overachieve like a TTU or WVU.

*****es because we strike out on a 3 star with 7 legit offers.. complains that we have 4 open spots.. offers no solutions for any guys he wants us to recruit.. comes up with a crazy theory that Tech, yes texas tech, somehow has some "system" that, apparently with some implied degree of consistency, turns 3 stars into overachievers...

Ignores that we recently made the final 4 with the same type of guys we routinely recruit, including 2 (TWO) star Cousins. while tech only made the elite 8 and it was pretty much a miracle season..

Im not a Kruger fan because of this last year demonstrating his lax coaching imo. But i think he actually recruits pretty well.. they just have to largely improve on their own imo (buddy cousins woodard)

Id love to add 2 Jucos every other year or one every year.

LK may not get the best classes but he is classy than any of the team's coaches that are mentioned doing better than we are recruiting.

Bob P on this week's Unofficial 40 SoonerScoop podcast said OU plans to bring in 13 official visitors in September.

Only downside is he says OU would be lucky to get 1 or 2 to commit. I hope he is wrong about this. :)

Give me 2 fill in with Juco or transfer, I dont want a full 6 man 4 year guys. TOO MANY in 1 class.

I agree 6 is too many, but I definitely want 4, and maybe 5. Getting a great class of 4 year guys like that is that a way to set up a big run. Getting 5 high school guys, if you can get 3 that turn into good starters, when those guys are upperclassmen who have played together for 60+ games you start seeing real results. It's what happened with Spangler/Buddy/Isiah, and it's how you put together a team at a school that isn't consistently going to bring in top 10 classes.

And that's especially true considering Harmon is a potential one and done or two and done.

I think we'll have 7 scholarships available after this year (I think Freeman will graduate and either transfer or go play pro ball in NZ/Australia). I'd like to see 4-5 HS kids, 1-2 regular transfers, and 1 grad transfer.

Would love if we got 2 of those. I hope our chances are better than LUCKY though. :)

Spangler was a transfer although your point is a good one. But you just never know how guys are going to turn out that are 4 year guys from HS. There has been at least one if not a couple more that Lon has brought in that people thought were going to be good 4 year types that are no longer with the program. It happens to all programs.

IF OU is able to bring in 3 HS top 150 types (Harmon/any of the others they are chasing) and then 1-2 Jucos and 1-2 more transfers than I'd say they've done a really good job with this class. If they have 2 HS top 150 guys and the Juco/transfers and want to take a shot at a project so be it.

I know he was a transfer, the point is those guys played a billion games together.

And I'll take a decent HS kid over a JUCO every single day.

Im with you most of the time. But Id like to always have 1-2 spots open to get a impact transfer at the end of each year for the next year.
