2025 NCAA Tourney Bracketology

OU still very much in the dance as of today ..
Again, the tournament doesn’t start today and we all know how this ends. And they aren’t “very much in” even as of today. They are essentially where they were heading into conference tournament week last year…right near the cut line.

From The Athletic:

SEC

Locks: Auburn, Alabama, Florida, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Texas A&M
Should Be In: Kentucky, Mississippi State, Missouri
In the Mix: Arkansas, Georgia, Oklahoma, Texas, Vanderbilt
On the Fringe: None
Oklahoma
Profile Strengths: Three huge neutral-court wins, outstanding metrics, one loss outside Q1.
Profile Weaknesses: Starting to accumulate a lot of losses, tough schedule ahead.
Looking Ahead: Oklahoma took two more losses as big underdogs this week, falling at home to Tennessee and on the road at Missouri. The Sooners should still be fine given their bona fides, but the current 3-8 mark in the SEC is going to disgust some observers. Beating LSU this weekend is a must, and stealing one at what could be a shorthanded Florida next Tuesday would be a major boost to a team feeling the brunt of the overloaded SEC.

Oklahoma
Profile Strengths: Three huge neutral-court wins, outstanding metrics, only two losses outside Q1.
Profile Weaknesses: Starting to accumulate a lot of losses, tough schedule ahead.
Looking Ahead: OK, the hand is hovering directly over the panic button. The Sooners are not just losing, they are getting slaughtered, and picking up a 10th league loss already is going to have the vultures circling the Oklahoma camp. All is not lost, as the Sooners get two big Q1 home shots against Mississippi State (Saturday) and Kentucky (Wednesday), but this team does not look capable of beating anyone right now. Unless they right the ship in a hurry, Oklahoma is going to miss the NCAA Tournament after a flawless nonconference slate.

I feel like the various publications should just allow Sooner fans to write these … I could have beaten them to the punch by about a month. I really wish the betting app I use had odds to make/miss the tournament because I would have hammered “miss” several weeks ago and made a killing.

I’d love to know some history on a P5 school going undefeated in non con and then missing the tourney outright; especially considering in this case it was not 13-0 against all cupcakes. While I wasn’t making travel arrangements for mid March, I was pretty confident that at 13-0 they wouldn’t be able to screw it up SO badly that by Feb. 21st we’d already be on outside of the bubble.

I don’t think it’s ever happened before. Not since I’ve been paying attention to college basketball. Pretty wild. And here’s the kicker. They’re pretty much out of the mix even before March. Not like last year where they won just enough games to make it interesting in March. This year they started 13-0 and only had to win 7 more games, and yet they played so poorly in conference that they’re completely out of the tournament conversation by February 21st (with a loss tomorrow).

Yeah it’s pretty crazy. I’d say their last miracle/Hail Mary would be to win the next two. If they beat Miss St and UK and get to 18-10/5-10 I would think they would sneak back onto the clear interior of the bubble with 3 to go.

That said, I’d put the odds of going 2-0 probably 10% or thereabouts.

I agree

It was sad enough for us to start a thread for the fourth year in a row hoping we get an entry into the 68 team tournament. That sets the standard very low for starters. Then to read this from the beginning where there is still some good confidence and continue to read as that low-bar hope starts to quickly diminish is really sad for all of us fans.

Here is what most bracketologists have us listed at currently:

On3 - Last four In

ESPN - First team out

CBS - Last team in

JBR Bracketology - Last team in

Blogging the Bracket - Second to last in

Based on this and how we are playing don't see any possibility that we make it unless if we rattle off at least three wins, but even then it's dicey.

Betting odds point to a win.....but I'm not going to bet on anything with this team, lol

Crazy that we are a home dog to a team at the bottom of the top 25. Remember at the start of the season when some people would excuse every road loss by saying how hard it is to win on the road in this league? We are now 2-4 at home and will be dogs in our remaining three home games.

in their last 2 games they beat ole miss on the road and they crushed a top 10 team this week (tamu) at home

I am very surprised that OU is not a much much bigger dog ..
