If you've never been to a State Tournament game at the 4A and below level, you should go at least once. Most of these schools are the only high school in their towns and the entire town supports them, not just the students and parents of the players. The arena is always packed and the atmosphere is usually electric.

My highschool, Cordell, is playing Preston for the title at 2:00. It will be televised on Uverse 757 in Dallas. My loyalties are somewhat divided.

This game won't start for another 15 minutes or so due to a Double OT game in the 3A Boys Final.

Final: Preston 45 Cordell 41
Cordell shot well early and took a 16-7 lead before Dungee hit three straight threes, and Preston put on a pressure defense that Cordell ever did fight off. Preston went on a 17-3 run and had a 28-21 halftime lead. I think Cordell only scored 3 in the second quarter and 4 in the third.

Just when it looked like Preston would win with a blowout, Cordell put on a pressure defense, and their quickness made up for Preston's size, and a fifteen point lead evaporated to four. But, Preston was simply too big and too athletic for Cordell.

Dungee looks like a college player already. She can hit the three, which got Preston back into the game early. She can drive, and she has a short jumper. She is effective as a passer. She was their key ball-handler. She is built more along the lines of an A'quonesia Franklin or Odyssey Sims.

In this game, she was so physically superior to the Cordell girls that I'm not exactly sure of her ball-handling skills. A part of her ability was that she was just big enough to create her own driving lane. I got the impression that her dribbling skills could use a little polish, but that is perhaps expecting perfection out of a sophomore. She won't see a better ball-handler at the highschool level. She can do everything else. She scored 23 of Preston's 45, and I think she had 21 of Preston's first 28.

She is already the athlete, and she has the shooting skills. I do think she will be able to be a very effective ball-handler in college.

It's past time for Oklahoma to institute a shot clock for high school games. I felt that way when my kids were in school and nothing has happened to change my mind since then.

I was happy to see that Dungee isn't a skinny 15 year old. Few players will out muscle her.

I agree, every state should have a shot clock, it's a little unfair.
