Who do you think is going to grab ahold and hand on to that 5th starter's spot and why?

Likely candidates:

Lattin
Buford
McNease
Manyang

I'd be shocked if it wasn't Lattin.

Lattin.

He was the first big off of the bench last season. With Thomas no longer around, we'll need his size on defense and on the boards to eliminate some of the pressure on Spangler to keep him from getting into early foul trouble. That may change later on if Buford proves he's too valuable to our offense to bring him off of the bench. But, Lattin is the one I think we'll see in that fifth spot to start the season.

I'd say Lattin to start the season, but if his offense hasn't improved significantly over last season and if Buford turns out to be as good as we're all hoping he is, I won't be surprised to see Buford usurp that starting position.

They need something approaching a true center, so Lattin. Buford looked like a good player to me. I'm not familiar enough with Kruger's rotations to know where Buford fits.

I like Lattin's size/defense to start, I like Buford's scoring off the bench.

Kruger has several interesting ways of doing things. One of them is the practice jersey the players wear. The jersey is reversible. Red and white. As practice goes along he will have a player reverse jersey color depending who he wants to rotate in.

But, Kruger tells the players they have to earn the right to wear a red jersey. Every day for 5 years Kruger has told the players before they go out who will start practice with a red jersey. Those players that come out in red would be the starters if there were a game that day.

Buford has never started practice with a red jersey. For the last couple of weeks Lattin and Jumuni kind of alternated days. Jumuni with the edge. I missed Saturday. Friday six came out with a red jersey. Woodard, Buddy, Cousins, Spangler, Lattin, and Manyang.

This situation is still fluid. But, I would bet a chunk that the starters the first game won't be the starters the last game. Maybe as many as two different.

Always good stuff Which two young guys do you think become starters?

Buford looks like a really good second unit producer. Good enough to start, but excellent in a second unit role

Jamuni has probably earned it during practice. However, he and Dante have yet to perform in games. It will be interesting to see whose game translates best to real games. believe all three have a chance to be really good players.

However it goes, the depth will be nice.

That is right. This team needs to be performing at a pretty high level early. My guess is that Kruger goes with the most experience early on.

Cousins at the point. Woodard and Buddy, then Spangler and Lattin. Walker the first guard off the bench and Buford early and often. There are others more knowledgable than I and closer to the program that have different opinions than I do. One of them yesterday said that he would be surprised if Jumuni wasn't the starter over Lattin and that Woodard would settle into the guard spot and be really solid.

Im am different in that I believe Odomes will will soon pass Walker as first guard off the bench and may get in to Woodards minutes. And I kind of think Lattin will get his current shortcoming shored up and solidify himself.

Kruger will start with a 10 man rotation and the kids will have an opportunity to show what they can do on game day. The rotation could stay at 10 or shorten up as the kids sort themselves out. at this point, Manyang can not be considered as a contributor.
