before this years' debacle.

Bruce Pearl is FAR AND AWAY the most qualified candidate of those available.

I think Buzz should be #1 on the list but Buzz should also turn it down.

Not sure we could hire a guy with NCAA infractions right now. Not with the OU history of violations in every sport.

he might be the most qualified....but also might be the most dangerous for the program. but i can see your point.

Unless they go to the final four, Buzz Williams will not be at Marquette next year. It'll be OU or Arkansas for him.

I don't know what Pearl's next job will be, but it will come with a huge neon sign saying:

NCAA!!! INVESTIGATE HERE!

On the court he is without a doubt the most qualified, but do we really want to take a guy with looming sanctions? I'm sorry becuase I'd love to have him in Norman, but he needs to pull a BCG and get out of the game for a while.

You would have to be a complete ****ing idiot to think Bruce Pearl would be the right hire for OU at this time.

Wouldn't surprise me if he receives a "show cause order"

minor violations from what i have heard. I think the risk is small and the payoff great with Bruce Pearl.

I know we have no chance of hiring him. But if we did, it would be SO FREAKIN' AWESOME!

that doesn't matter:

1. it's still a hearing. nothing says you hafta lose
2. EVEN IF we lose, worst case is one year post-season ban. We aren't making the ncaa's with this group next season anyway so no damage done.
3. if we miss the post-season conference tourney...so what? one extra game lost? who cares.

getting our coach >>> show cause hearing

If he did get a show cause, can you hire him without permission from the NCAA? I thought that was the whole point.

Show Cause just means they have to prove something or some punishment can happen (one formerly levied) ... so the NCAA's wrath can follow him if the NCAA wasn't convinced at the show cause hearing.

Coaches that have been given a show cause penalty don't coach.

Indeed. It is basically a hearing to determine whether the sanctions from a previous job will follow a coach to his new job. In OU's case, it likely would. Some here might argue that he is worth any potential sanctions, with in reason of course.
