A potential Football/Basketball scheduling conflict

A meaningful basketball game vs a meaningless football game? No question how I'd spend my time. But I'll bet attendance at the LNC won't be great.

That about sums it up for me. I almost always watch the OU bowl games, even when we have a crappy season (ex: Clemson in the whatever-Bowl this past season). However, I would watch an OU-ISU hoops game 100 times out of 100 over an OU football game which does not have national championship implications. I also understand I'm in the overwhelming minority of OU sports fans.

With both games being on the same network I bet some arranging would be done.

It is almost a guarantee that OU will not be in the Alamo Bowl unless the Alamo Board of Directors has changed recently. Am I the only one who recalls the comment from one of them about OU being invited to play there?

How many times have we been invited since the agreement between the Alamo Bowl and the conference? Do you think that is an accident?

I don't know the history, but the Big 12 bowls have been re-ordered. It is now the top bowl the conference can go to, outside of the Playoff/BCS bowls.

So yes, if Baylor or TCU make the Playoff, and the other gets an at-large, and OU finished 3rd, we'd be in line for the Alamo.

I could see OU finishing ahead of TCU and getting the at-large, or I could see us finishing 4th or so, and being passed over the Alamo. But I don't see any reason they'd skip over us if we're in a position to go there.

I guess I didn't say it here, but elsewhere when I said OU wasn't beating Baylor, I qualified that with "unless there is a major injury."

Losing your starting QB and being forced to start a true freshman who will only be starting his second game, would be a "major injury." OU will still likely be the underdog, but I like our chances A LOT more now.

Isn't Jan 2 early for a conference game?

Might as well make the college basketball scheduling pay for putting a game on at that time.

This is one of top 5 games of the season for basketball.

Why is the Alamo Bowl in January? Are the playoff games a day before?

Two days before. I believe beginning this year and going forward, the Playoff Games (2) are going to be on Dec 31.

Personally I would go to the basketball game and record the football game. Then I have the good fortune to live in Norman so I can be home in 10 minutes and watch at least the second half of the football game live and review the first half later if the interest is there.

I agree with coach. Every effort will be made to change the time of start time of the basketball game. Although I would think the administration and the conference were well aware of the potential conflict when they scheduled the basketball game.

yes definitely. From what I have read, their highly touted freshman is going to be a good one but can't move around as much as russel. That should help us out. I hope he lights it up before we play them and comes in over confident

There's obviously a ways to go until this is determined, but seeing a lot of bowl projections that have OU in the Alamo Bowl. Have family in San Antonio and always said I'd go to that bowl if OU was in it but...

That game is going to be played on Saturday, Jan. 2. What's also scheduled on that day is the OU-Iowa State game in Norman. To add insult to injury, the hoops game starts at 6 and Alamo Bowl at 6:45.

I think we know what the fan turnout at the LNC would be if that happened. Would be really disappointing for such a big game.

Yes, I have no life and waste my time looking at these things. :D

Don't sweat it all. We are going to be playing at the Cotton Bowl on Dec. 31st in the playoff semifinal . There will be no conflict.;)

That would be what I call a win-win situation in this potential ordeal. :D

You might just be a prophet.

Looks like this problem has been solved. :dance005:

He likely had the wrong Playoff game, but yep, we're in good shape.

We'll probably get shipped off to Miami though.

OU needs Mayfield to be healthy. I like OU's chances a lot with Mayfield but I am not nearly as confident with Trevor Knight on the road against OSU. He did not play well at all against TCU.

Vegas must think Mayfield is playing because they made the Sooners a 3.5 point favorite.

or we would be a 10 point favorite if they knew mayfield was playing

Or a 10-point underdog if they thought he wasn't. Did you watch that game Saturday night? Do you really think there is any way odds makers would have us favored if Trevor Knight was starting? Heck, TCU was playing with a slew of backups, and they would have won the game had their head coach not make a dumb decision after scoring that last touchdown.
