OU had just won our 6th game in a row. A streak that included wins over Arizona Arkansas and @ Utah to run our record to 9-3. Yes we had a bad trip to Alaska but that was easily written off to youth and our 3 McDonalds AA learning to play together.

We had just came off an elite 8 season, Capel had just received a 7 year extension, we were young but loaded with talent. Cameron Clark and TJ Taylor were coming in to add to the talent .......

then the wheels came flying off at 80 mph ... nobody saw it coming ... anything bad that could happen happened ... injuries, selfishness, stealing some threads at Dillards, sleazy merrill lynch wanna be agents wiring $$$, you name it ...

remember people ... capel did not see this coming either ... he saw some of the chemistry issues and warned that we should not have been ranked ... but not the other stuff.

So here we are only half a year later ... pretty much an entire new roster ... last minute additions ... some guys who probably are not OU good ... it's fixing time ...

everybody needs to be part of the solution, *****ing about what happened over the last year is worthless, it's in the history books, a waste of time.

Capel is going to get us right back to where we were a year ago, it fell apart so fast and will take a little more time to fix, but it will be fixed.

the end

Greatest post ever, someone actually putting it all in perspective, we will return.

A year ago today almost everyone but Boca knew that team was bad.

A year ago today we just beat a bad Northern Colorado team by 1 and were fearing the blowout that was impending a few days later in the All College. Just go back about 140 pages in this board and you will see a board looking a lot like it has after losses this year and we had just won.

Here's a nice post from about a year ago this this time.

Any lack of experience and depth falls squarely on Sampson. He cheated and lied and put this program on probation then fled the scene. Tony Crocker is all that remained from the Sampson probation carnage.

People blaming Capel or Willie Warren don't have a clue.

Here's another post from right after the All-College blowout from UTEP last year.

I don't know if Capel and staff have done a good job evaluating how these players would fit into a system because it looks like there is no system right now.

This isn't something new, we've basically seen this same statement from people like me over and over again.

Boca, other than you I do not know of a single soul that wants to right back where we were last year as said. At any point last year, what was great? Do you even believe what you write?

I'm with you Boca. Obviously we just have to suffer through this season and hope that the core comes back, then add size/athleticism next year in Osby and Goff. Next year 5 of our best players will be juniors and then seniors the next year. Things will get better. Just have to suffer through this year, something we should all have seen coming. Not sure why people are freaking out that a team picked 11th is 5-6 right now with 6 losses on the road.

Pretty soon we'll be 8-6 and nobody should think we are all of the sudden a great team and then after that nobody should have a cow when Baylor, Texas, Kansas etc beat us by 20. They have size, athleticism and experience. We don't. Yet.

Here's a little more from what this board looked like a year ago today.

1. This is not a good combination of players. Just not a good blend.
A. You have a big man that doesn't know how to get in the middle and act like one.
B. You have a player that wants to be a superstar but, doesn't want to put forth the effort to do so.
C. You have 2 upper classman that are giving there all and everybody is watching.
2. HEART......I don't see it right now.....

Mount Saint Marys: 0-3
VCU: 0-8
Centenary: 0-6
UNC: 0-3

He is 11-44 from the 3pt line this year, and he has a few games where he didnt attempt a 3 (one where he didnt play and the other where he didnt attempt)....

Is he just a bad shooter? Big time slump? Attitude getting in the way?

You guys tell me....

So I'm watching the stream of the Northern Colorado game, is there really almost nobody there?

Here's one from faithful.
Before some of you get your feathers all ruffled. unc seemed to be a pretty good team. It will be interesting to see what they do the rest of the season. BOOMER SOONER BABY!!!

BTW we didn't beat UNC as in Carolina. We just beat Northern Colorado.

I really worry about the chemistry of this team. There is a lot of talent, but it is not translating into success on the court. It seemed pretty chippy out there on the court at times between our guys. At times there was a lot of attitude with some of our players, but not a lot of effort and fundamentals. Capel looked really exasperated with them and didn't sugarcoat his frustration in the post game. I hope he doesn't have to take drastic actions with some players, but it wouldn't surprise me if he did.

I love optimism. I hope this team has a great future ahead of it. I hope it's with Capel because it means that we probably didn't lose all of our conference games and it probably means that we went to the NCAA Tournament next season. We need to be there and hopefully Capel is the guy who can get us back on track because we're probably looking at a longer timeline with anyone else.

But, I don't understand portraying Capel as this innocent bystandard in the whole thing. Yeah, he may have been blindsided, but he's the one driving the bus off the cliff. He recruited the guys who left and has recruited the guys who have "replaced" them. I'm not longing for the days of Sampson by any means, because he had issues aside from winning which make him undisirable. However, the guys who left his teams (which was annoying then as it is now) seemed to not buy into the system. Now we're confused when they leave and it's not "buying into the system" because I have yet to find a discernable system in the Capel era other than "feed the ball to Blake at all times."

If the season ended today, I'd have to lean to get a new coach. Luckily for Capel the season's not over and I'm not in charge.

A year ago today the team went on to lose 15 of its last 20 games.

I mean, sure, you can pick out a mini win streak vs Centenary, Northern Colorado (by 1), and against a horrible Utah team in overtime, but who the hell cares about such a win streak? Why is a streak that includes wins over those losers relevant at all?

The point is they lost 15 of their last 20 games after beating Centenary, Northern Colorado, and Utah, lol.

Those were three nice wins at the time but when the season ended those were three teams left out of the NCAA Tournament. Arizona finsihed 16-15. Arkansas finished 17-14. Utah finished 14-17. Those recrods may include exhibitions wins (I am not sure).

I don't fault Capel for those teams being down last year. He did a good job winning those games but OU had a horrible year last year.

I just don't get how anyone can be thrilled with Jeff Capel. The man is getting paid well over a million dollars a year and he has done a terrible job at OU.

When is Capel responsible for the actions of OU's teams? Next season? 2012/13? 2013/14?

I firmly believe Joe C. will give Capel another year. I hope I am wrong about Capel but I am convinced I am not. 14 players have left early under his watch.

OU is not even going to compete in Big XII play. They will be fortunate to win 4 games in conference play. Nebraska beat OU by almost 20 points last year. ISU beat OU in Norman. CU beat OU by double digits. Tech, Baylor and A&M swept OU last year. If you can't see what is coming in conference play you are blinded by loyalty. It is going to be ugly. OU has struggled at home with bad teams. OU is not playing strong defense and seems to not even run an offense.

For those that believe Capel is a great coach, tell me his system. Explain to me what he is trying to accomplish and how he has taken steps to do that. I honestly cannot see it. I want to see it. I want to believe but I just don't see it.

Why is there such high hope for Osby? He average 4 points at mississippi state. OU doesn't have the guards to compete in the big 12. OU will have better size next year but I see the same issues with lack of talent.

For the same reason there was high hope for him there... he is really athletic and skilled at 6'8''.... I dont know why it didnt work out for him there though.
