I think they are going to give the foot a few more weeks to heal. Big guys and chronic foot injuries are a concern IMO.

ouch. he has to be a big part of our team this year for this team to meet their goals.

Dang! :facepalm That is not good news. I was afraid that might happen, especially since he was reported to be in a boot one week and then showed up in a practice pic the next. Sure hope this is not a recurring injury, which is all to common with the feet.

Anytime somebody that big has a foot issue, it's not good. Wouldn't surprise me if he missed the entire season. If he isn't ready in a few weeks, I'd shut him down and redshirt him.

Does he have a redshirt available?

I don't think so, but would he want it? I'm sure the guy wants to make some money playing basketball even if it's not in the NBA.

It's surprising that Manyang is 7' tall and only wears a size 14 shoe. That has to put a lot of pressure on his feet. Foot injuries make me remember how they wrecked Bill Walton's playing career ..... maybe some of the older members remember him (not a Sooner).

This really isn't good at all.

I don't think Lattin is ready for full time minutes. Buford is undersized and not really a post guy.

People forget the vital roles DJ Bennet and Thomas played for us.

Huh? Lattin should be plenty ready. Especially defensively and rebounding-wise. His offense might not be ready, but we also shouldn't need it.

Buford is not really undersized either. He is probably pretty close to Spangler's size. And he is pretty average for stretch 4's that we'll see a lot of. Still leaves McNeace as well. Spangler, Lattin, Buford, and McNeace should be solid enough. And that is assuming AK is out the entire season, which he may or may not be.

i haven't been to all that many practices. the ones that have are telling me that jumuni has been getting as much more or more run with the first team as lattin. They are both good. but, in different ways. jumuni has a left handed jump hook down low that he gets whenever he wants.

I agree it is not good news.

Having said that, manyang was probably not going to be the offensive beast that Thomas was this season. Thomas was not a defensive stalwart, and that's all we really need out of the post this season. We have an abundance of scorers from the wing positions, and spangs is a double digit scorer himself. Buford could be a special player for us, too. We have big daddy Jr. in there for d and rebounding too. Lattin has a decent shot, also. He has NBA potential IMO. We just need manyang to get healthy and be ready for a mid to late season push.

The size 14 on a 7' who weighed 220 was apparently ok.
When he added 25# of muscle and went through much harder workouts, the stress on the foot was too much.

He may need to lose a little weight and get some more effective orthotic inserts.

I'm not the least bit surprised about jamuni's progress. He went from a big no one noticed all that much one season to an important player on a high school team that made it to the state finals his senior year. That should tell us something about his work ethic as well as his potential. I think he will be a star before his career at OU is over.

I've been saying for almost a year, since I got to attend a practice, that I was excited about McNease. I won't predict how much he'll play this year, but I won't be surprised if he contributes more than Bennett did last season (and I don't intend that a knock on DJ).

Jamuni is going to play a bigger role than any of us realized this summer. And I say that as a good thing, not as a fall back. He's made huge strides.

My guess/hunch: he doesn't play this year.

Anybody want some stock tips?

He might not play this year. And if he does, I would expect him to be about as productive as Longar was his first season here.

This is correct from my sources. It isn't out of the question that he may actually be the starter.
