Akolda Manyang

Interesting. I think Lattin has a real shot at being very high on that career list. 133 doesn't seem like much of a stretch based on what he did this season in limited minutes.

Very much so, if he just stays at his current pace that is 104 total. He is at 1 BPG right now, so we have 2 conf games, and min 2 postseason games left, that is 30 total for the year, which would put him at 120 after his career.

He could easily be top 4 after four years here, and any progression could see him challenge some of those top numbers.

Hard to believe Gilbert had that many career blocks, with his somewhat limited playing time. That dude was a monster defensively. If only he had any touch on offense at all.

Lattin should break that record if he stays 4 years.

FWIW, Jordan Mickey, the OU legacy we recruited a couple years ago is leading the nation with 3.8 BPG, to go along with 16 points and 10 rebounds per game. Haven't seen him play, but those are absolutely monstrous stats for a college player. That's a guy who could win the Naismith next year if he returns.

Loved me some Gilla. Anyone know what he's up to these days?

Johnny is in law enforcement back in Eden or Minneapolis. Providing good defense. I wouldn't be surprised if there weren't a connection between Gilbert and the subject of this thread - Akolda Manyang - considering OU.

Apparently, Manyang sat behind the Sooner bench at the Iowa State game. That's a good sign!

much more likely that the connection is Manyang's cousin . Longer Longer

Thanks for posting, CoachTalk! Not a bad outing for Manyang. Six blocks is very impressive. He'll be a nice piece to next year's OU team with his ability to block and change shots, even if he is not an offensive juggernaut.

All good except the free throws. I really hope Manyang isn't one of those 40% FT shooters that is essentially a turnover if/when he goes to the line. Of course, if he blocks shots like that for OU, it will be worth it.

If you use the above game as a guide, he's actually a 20 percent FT shooter. ;)

I watched him play yesterday. He's long, super athletic, with 0 basketball IQ. They ran no plays for him so anything he did was garbage stats.

The rebounds and blocked shots were garbage stats?

I assume you meant his points were off of putbacks and wide open shots/dunks.

Does he look better than Arent, Bennett and Orlando Allen?

I want to know if he is anything comparable to McKay from ISU. Granted, ISU started to throw him the ball a bit more on the block, but the majority of his points after he became eligible were on putbacks and wide open dunks. His rebounding and his length on the defensive end has helped their team tremendously.

I mean he does junk man work. work the offensive boards. He looks like a chicken with his head cut off. He's out there with no idea of what's going on. This is common in juco thoough. On one play, the other team called a time out and he had no idea what was going on. he ran down to the other side of the court to play offense. One of his teammates had to go get him.

On the positive side, he runs like a straight up dear. He flies after every shot. Great motor. I'd like to see him redshirt to learn the game more.

Call me crazy, but I like everything you said about Manyang. He's long and super athletic. He runs the floor well, has a high motor that never stops, blocks and goes after shots like they're an invasion on his territory.

If he led the team in scoring with 15 points, on 7 of 8 shooting from the field, and the team didn't run any plays for him, that makes it even better. His 11 rebounds, 6 blocks, an assist and a steal were a bonus.

Everything else you described can be fixed or improved with a lot of work on his part and good coaching. I'm more excited about seeing him in an OU uniform than ever now!

Great report, Seymore!
