Assistant Coach's Possibilities?

They definitely could promote Sheperd. I'd prefer a current, high level, experienced assistant or former HC for 1 spot and a younger fast rising coach for the other. Regardless of who he picks, Coach will bring in excellent coaches and I'm for whoever he picks.

More likely Kruger hires his kid.

I would think Kevin would be a possibility but he doesn't have a ton of experience. I'd definitely hope for someone with connections in this area (OK, TX) for recruiting.

Some posters on another site were speculating that the reason for the assistants leaving is Lon retiring after the season. Just thought I'd see what people here thought about that

Makes zero sense.

I don't agree with them but I see where they're coming from. They say maybe the coaches know Lon is retiring after the season. So they are going to move on as well.

That just isn't how things like what they're speculating go down. Henson, as the lead assistant, would be a candidate to replace him here. Doesn't hold water.

Okay. Cool. I've only watched college basketball consistently for a couple years and this year was the first time I was really into it. I don't know much about the nuances outside of the actual game. I know people here know more than most so that's why I wanted y'all's opinion. Thank you

Kruger has probably a good 5-6 (maybe more) years left. I think he's 63 and in excellent health. He's pretty close to a few career milestones. I definitely think this is his last coaching job.

I wouldn't be surprised if Lon hired one of the head coaches from major programs at the top assistant level. For example, would someone like Trent Johnson (TCU), Dave Rice (UNLV) or Brian Gregory (Georgia Tech) be a good fit? Perhaps not, but there are worse ideas than hiring a former head coach to be your top assistant.

I remember somebody who fits this category 10 years ago when Jeff Capel was hired. People probably didn't think much of this, but he brought Rod Barnes with him after he just got fired from Ole Miss. For those who remember that one season with Barnes, we had a pretty solid defense...the best defense OU had in the 5 years of the Jeff Capel era.

I was watching Andy Katz and he thinks ou is going to offer him an extension so if he was retiring that would be shocking.

As for the assistant, Terry Evans. He's has had head coaching experience, local ties, connection to coaches in Texas like Jeff Webster, he was an assistant during our last final four run.

I don't see this as legit at all. The last thing he would do is quit knowing 2 of his assistants are moving on. I think Lon has at least 5 more years in him if not 10.

Gregory would be an interesting option. Longtime Izzo assistant.

I was hoping you guys would say this. Another poster said he had sources that told him they expected tide two to get jobs. I know that was well known. But he also said his sources didn't shut down the idea of Lon retiring. So I was hoping people on here would be able to reassure me. Lol

Did Najera suck as a D League coach? See he's listed as a Mavericks Scout or the FSN-Mavs broadcaster.
He'll get face time on TNTs OU flavored broadcast

He said on that Men of March 1/2 hr. show that CBS Sports ran on him that although he didn't know how long he'd be here for sure, OU would be his last stop.
