Assistant Coach's Possibilities?

Win Case and Greg Grensing are 2 names to keep in mind. Both guys are at Middle Tennessee and either have deep connections to the state (Case) or Coach (Grensing). I think both might get a look, especially Grensing.

I wonder if OU (and LK) winning a NC this season would speed up the retirement process for Kruger? Not saying he'd retire immediately, or even after next year, but maybe instead of 7 years down the road, it's more like 4?

I was hoping you guys would say this. Another poster said he had sources that told him they expected tide two to get jobs. I know that was well known. But he also said his sources didn't shut down the idea of Lon retiring. So I was hoping people on here would be able to reassure me. Lol

That was me. I said they didn't completely shoot down the idea, but that was because they didn't have any info either way. Don't take that as it's happening. I took it the other way. One would likely know for sure if something was in the works.

Doug Gotlieb

I know this is probably a joke, but if it's not, I assure you there are former players who are deeply involved in the program that would shut the possibility of Gottlieb down within seconds of hearing about it.

He said on that Men of March 1/2 hr. show that CBS Sports ran on him that although he didn't know how long he'd be here for sure, OU would be his last stop.

He also said that he thought he would keep coaching until it began to take away from his ability to watch his grandkids activities. The older one looked to be close to kindergarten age.

Whoever he hires, I think it will be someone whose philosophy of coaching mirrors his.

Awesome. Thanks for clarifying! My bad for misunderstanding.

I just dont like hiring OU guys unelss they are legit folks. I'll trust LK.

I assume Crutch moves up for sure.

Grooms and Kellen would be bad hires.

From Henson and Hill to Kellen and Grooms.

They need at least one of the guys to be a dynamite recruiter. Lew Hill did a really good job in that aspect. Wonder if this affects guys like McGusty who Hill was the lead recruiter on..

Agreed.

And why would Kellen want to leave coaching with his dad? lol

If the move the Director of basketball operations to an asst coach then Kellen would probably be good at that position. I would love to have some Sampson emotion on the bench but not as an asst coach, not yet at least.

Grooms? No thanks. Too young. Kellen is older than Grooms and was a Grad Asst at OU and Indiana as well as on the staff at Appalachian State. Grooms has just been at a JUCO.

He's already signed, so no.

where's ouleopard when you need him?

For real. I haven't posted on here long. But I've visited for awhile and actually started right during when that whole thing went down. He had awesome info. I wish he still posted here

Since there have been no official announcements to this point, you should take this with a grain of salt.

I was told by someone I trust that Lon will add his son, Kevin, to the staff to fill the gap left by Henson. My source also said that Coach Crutch will be promoted and that Mike Shepherd will move up to an assistant's position. I was told that Wade Mason, a dynamic recruiter and Crutchfield pal from ORU may be a candidate for a position on our staff. He was also a GA under Coach Kruger before going to ORU.

As I said, there are no links nor has there been an official announcement to confirm anything I have said, so take it as a rumor, at least for now, from a pretty good source.

Here's a link to Mason's profile on the ORU site if you're interested:
